I just finished cleaning the revolver, using Outers nitro solvent and gun oil. Question: Is it normal for the solvent/oil to leave a colorful appearance on the bluing? Did I remove too much oil? Should I use more? Should I use something else?

Not sure what you mean by "colorful appearance".

After cleaning the gun, wipe all powder solvent off with a soft cloth or paper towel.

Put a few drops of gun oil on a patch and apply a THIN coat on all surfaces, then wipe off the excess with a cloth.

This will leave a protective coat on the gun to prevent rust, but may leave the finish with a streaked look.

That's it! The streaked look. With the right angle of light it's quite colorful, similar to oil on pavement after a rainstorm. What you're saying is this streak should be there?

I like to clean, then use Tetra. Beads up after a few minutes like water on a wax job. Just buff it off with a soft cloth and it leaves a durable, protective coating.

Stay safe.
