I just wondered what to make of the instructions in the CZ manuaI about cleaning parts of a gun other than the bore.

Why does it caution against the use of bore cleaners to clean other parts of the gun and say that they could remain in the joints and cause corrosion?

The carbon that builds up in the slide of an automatic is the same as the carbon in the barrel after all, and I'm not sure how you would remove it without a cleaner.

CZ recommends a "preserving oil" or paraffin oil, but I'm not sure what this means. I know that oils lubricate and protect against rust, but I didn't know they were much good for cleaning.

Why would the use of Outers Nitro Solvent or Hoppes Elite Cleaner, or any other popular solvent be considered inappropriate anywhere outside the barrel?

Or do you think it's a case of something being lost in translation, and that the instructions refer to the more aggressive bore solvents rather than the run of the mill general cleaners?

Huh. The only thing I know is that the plastic guide rod might be suspectible to solvents

Or maybe some of the polycoat finishes?

Why don't you call a service center and ask?

I'd guess "lost in translation".

The CZ factory may consider the use of corrosive primed ammo normal, and it probably is in some military circles in Europe. The bore cleaner they might use with corrosive ammo might be some pretty suspect stuff to leave in the action.

There is no reason you can't use Hoppes #9, CLP, or any other good bore cleaner to clean the gun.
Most of it leaves an oil film when it drys, and does offer some rust protection.

Just avoid strong solvents like carb cleaner on the outside of the pistol ... it's possible it might soften/bubble the polycoat exterior finish. If you have a plastic guide rod, don't worry... normal gun cleaners don't hurt them.

I like to put a dab of grease on the slide rails and work the action .. instead of oil. Grease does a better job on slides than oil and doesn't run and stain your clothes or holster.

Try Hoppe's Elite bore cleaner. Seems very mild to me, yet does a great job cleaning.

Forget that manual

As good as the guns are, that's how lame the manuals are. I use regular Hoppes 9 and it works just fine. If anything, I think these former Soviet countries make tougher guns.

I've used most everything mentioned here with my 75B and had no troubles--including the guiderod. Stronger bore cleaners usually have a higher percentage of ammonia. Ammonia is corrosive to some materials like copper and lead.
I suspect a translation mix-up.

With the stronger bore cleaners I do only use them in the bore and barrel.
I don't have copper or lead build up on my slide rails. For me, Break Free CLP or something like Hoppes #9 work fine for the rest.

For lubrication: Breakfree CLP, Mobil 1 sythetic oil ,RemOil, and Militec on hot surfaces like the bbl have all worked for me with no corrosion problems.

I'm not familiar with CZs newer plastic guns and any restrictions they may or may not have.
