HORSHAM, Pa. -- A rash of violent robberies have been taking place in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Store workers have been shot and stabbed and police think the same criminals are to blame for many of the robberies.
The latest robbery took place Monday night at a 7-Eleven store at West Moreland Avenue and Blair Mill Road in Horsham. The man working the counter was stabbed and beaten in the course of the robbery and the incident was recorded on surveillance video.
Police said that a woman, whose face was covered, asked the clerk to get her a bottle of aspirin. When he walked around the counter, two men stabbed the clerk and then dragged him behind the register, where he was beaten. Customers outside the store called 911 to get police and paramedics to the store.
Police said they think the robbery on Monday is the latest in a string of armed robberies in the area.
"There's violence in every one of them and there is violence that you can see is escalating," said Sgt. Rich Carey, from the Horsham Township Police Department.
Investigators told NBC 10 News that similar robberies have taken place in the last couple of weeks at a McDonald's in Warminster, at a Wawa in Hatboro and at a Burger King in Horsham.
"They hit one of the (McDonald's) employees in the head with a pistol and kicked one of the employees in the head," Carey said.
The 7-Eleven clerk is in intensive care, but he is expected to make a full recovery.
