A friend of mine showed me his pistol cleaning technique and one of the steps I was surprised by was that he sprays Breakfree CLP on his loaded magazines, then wipes off the excess. He claims to occasionally use Kroil on his shells also ... I was under the impression that use of either product on shells could cause a FTF ... any input will be appreciated. Thanks ...

I think the web sight BOX of Truth did a test on primers and oils, primers held up well to common lubes. But why risk a dead primer.
But your friends technique will only add dust and lint to a loaded magazine.
I don't understand why he would spray any type of oil on the outside of a loaded magazine. A dry rag would be better.
Oiled cartridges can cause higher pressures due to the oil stuck beween the case and the chamber, not to mention picking up dust and lint.
The less I mess with loaded rounds the happier I am, load in mag, carry, shoot them next time i'm at the range.

I can pretty much assure you that Kroil is the most penetrating lube ever devised. It is a wonderful product for freeing rusted or seized pins and screws .I would not get it anywhere near magazines, breechfaces, chambers or ammunition. I probably wouldn't use it for any kind of firearm lubrication. Magazines should be cleaned, lightly oiled and wiped dry, especially the inside. IMO Breakfree CLP is all you need.

That's pretty much what I had always understood to be true; keep all oils, solvents, and any petroleum based products as far away from loaded ammo (and reloading components), as you can.

CLP and especially Kroil are very penetrating lubricants. Sure, if it gets on a cartridge case or primer it would take some time, but I would not take a chance on my primers becoming deactivated or rendered inert. Moreover, I can see utterly no reason to put oil on the outside of a magazine, save perhaps for long term storage out of the gun. Very light lubrication of the inside of a magazine will not hurt, but I like to keep mine clean and dry.
