When I was stationed in Germany our new M1 Tanks were kept in show room condition while in garrison.
As we didn't have armor all at the time, we used a rag damp with CLP to wipe down and shine everything rubber or plastic to include wiring harness's, seat covers, etc. I never noticed any damage, dry rot or issues with CLP causing damage to these items.
That being said, I don't get any solvents or oils on my polymer pistols intentionally. When the need cleaned a little hot water on the polymer parts and a wipe down with oil on the internals and I'm pretty happy with it.
