I went to Pope's gun show this weekend. I saw one attendee get out of his truck, which had a Kerry/Edwards decal on the window. Inside, I saw another guy browsing the tables sporting a K/E button on his cap.

WTH are people like that thinking? Either they're not gun owners and they were there in a spirit of contempt for gun owners; or they're gun owners who believe voting for Kerry will not affect their right to be such.

I work with a guy who falls in the latter category. He is, literally, a fool. It's infuriating to think of how many more like him are out there, registered to vote.

But, but...I thought Kerry was a HUNTER. And Edwards knows trial lawyers so he'll know how to reform the tort system that is trying to put gun makers out of business. These guys are our friends. Really! Really!

He is. I saw a picture of him holding a SHOTGUN, even. It was in the newspaper (like, a hundred times!).

Kerry shot a 19 point buck once down at Cape Cad with his over-and-under. Yep. It's "seared into his memory."

He was wearing the magic hat a CIA Officer gave him back in Cambodia.

Some Outdoorsmen to Consider Backing Kerry

AP story

Apparently these hunters don't realize the ammo for their rifles will be made illegal. It's not all about hunting.

An unemployed manufacturing union member may well be under the Democrat's spell and could very likely be a gun owner. I believe there are many socialists with guns. I think they take ownership of those guns for granted. Hunting season is just another excuse to drink a lot of beer or nip at the old flask.

America's not dumb enough to elect that Kerry creature.

A lot of people actively support Bush, too, so don't give the American electorate too much credit.

WTH are people like that thinking?

Remember that a lot of the serious RKBA supporters who hang out here and at similar sites are a small fringe group, not only within America but within its gun-owning subset. It seems there are tons of gun owners who don't care about gun politics, or about politics period.

Okay, here's where we start to breakdown. The majority by a large percentage of THR participants, documented in repeated polls, are planning to vote for Bush and are not your super cool, libertarian idealogues. Gun advocates everywhere are seriously trying to keep Kerry out of office and real serious about what would happen if that effort failed. Third party voters are less than zero help in that effort.

It is no news that many gun owners take that ownership for granted and haven't a clue about the threat of gun control legislation. In fact, a disappointing percentage of eligible citizens are registered or even bother to vote when they are registered. When they do vote, it would appear that many do not know the issues, the facts about candidates, or have any real knowledge of government and politics. They do, however, have the right to vote. They are inclined to identify themselves as affiliated with a party and too often vote straight ticket without having a clue what is at stake. Frankly, I think it would be better not to vote, but there is nothing I can do about it, short of do my little part to clue in those in my little world whenever welcome to do so. I contribute what I can where I think it will do the most good.

As I drove through the parking lot of the Tennessee Expo Center looking for a
parking place (hey, I got there late, ok?) I was surprised to see alot of
Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers. "Women for Kerry" and the usual
"Anybody but Bush" stickers. I figured alot of guys just drove their wife's car.
Wrong. Inside, alot of guys were wearing Kerry buttons, even Kerry ballcaps.
It was sickening to be amongst those who lack common sense.

The interesting part of it all was that the Kerry supporters were the ones who
lacked muzzle discipline, repeatedly crossing people with their muzzles
and walking around with their fingers on their triggers. These are obviously
the same people who crawl around on their belly with their trusty 12 gauge
double barrels when they deer hunt.

On a side note, I saw something a little more disturbing at the Pope show.
A group of 5 young Arabic men who did not speak a lick of english buying
Norinco MAK 90's, Romanian SAR-1's and AK magazines by the stack full. No
joke! [sarcasm]Hope they're on our side...[/sarcasm]

Umm, how did yoiu know they were "Arabic"? If they were Iranians would you know the difference? Or Israelis for that matter? Yeah, if they had an "Islamic Jihad" button on I might be a little concerned.

I drove though somw of Williamson Co yesterday. If Davidson is Bush country (and it is mostly) then Williamson is Bush Heaven, judging from signs, about 9-1 Bush. Tennessee is so solidly Bush anyway it doesnt matter.

I couldn't agree more. If W was expected to win by a landslide, fine, cast your protest vote. But it's going to be very close.

Then what you may have missed is that they were not gun enthusiasts at all. Perhaps they only came to wear their buttons and hats to make it appear that gun owner sentiments were mixed, promoting the idea that it was not unusual among gun enthusiasts to reject Bush.

The "Arabs" may also have been a plant to demonstrate how uncontrolled gun shows are. If you noticed, surely others did as well. I would bet money that someone has that on video, intending to use it against gun show sales.

Rabbi: If I see a middle eastern woman wearing a Hijab at Wal-Mart, is it
ok to say that she's a muslim? Ergo, if I see 5 men who speak
arabic at a gunshow, is it ok to say that they're arabic?

Lets not forget that an
Iraqi radical was recently arrested on weapons charges
for planning a 'jihad', which is
why I made the comment about the 5 middle eastern gentlemen at the Pope show in
the first place...

Realgun: While your theory may be plausible, I doubt it. The two promoters
who host the gun shows here do not allow cameras of any type inside their
show unless the promoters are filming a commercial for their show.
Which is a rare occurance, by the way. Besides, there were no news crews
or liberal politicians present.

Hidden cameras are EASY. I have a friend who works for a news stationand he hides cameras like nothing and gets great footage with little ease.

Not all Muslims are Arab. Not all Arabs are Muslims. I cant really distinguish Arabic from Farsi either written or spoken. My point is to be sensitive about classifying people just based on what they look like. That said, a group of Arabic-looking young guys buying loads of AK-type weapons and the ammo to go with them would cause me some concern as well. Esp if I was the one selling it.

Back to the original topic:

In yesterday's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, an article about the national concealed carry for retired cops bill briefly quoted me. (I'm the guy whose phone number is on our group's website).

This morning I was awakened by a caller who was upset that retired LEO's could carry, but not him. I told him I fully understood his feelings.

Then he went into a rant about the NRA commercial he saw bashing Kerry. He'd told me he was from Cudahy, which I suspect means he's union. Anywho, he said "Kerry's not anti-gun! He's a hunter. I saw him on TV hunting in Iowa."

After I ran through Kerry's history on gun control, his support for the new Feinstein AWB ban, Kerry's vote for the Kennedy ammo ban, and everything else, this guy was steaming. Said he was going to tell all the guys at his shop about what Kerry is really about.

If this guy hadn't taken the time to call me and wake me up, he'd be voting for Kerry.

Multiply that by millions of other clueless gun owners, and this election looks pretty scary.

And if you hadn't been gracious enough to spend the time convincing him of the error of his perceptions, even when he woke you up and ranted at you, he'd still be voting Kerry. Kudos!
