I sent an order last week for service grade M1 Garand. I recieved a confermation letter last week. I want to upgrade from a service grade to a select grade. Has anyone here changed there orders after sending the orders in? Should I keep the Service Grade and just send it to an M1 armor for the up grades? Please Help!

The North Store is closed until Sept. 5, IIRC, for inventory. I'm pretty sure folks are there for the inventory. Why not try giving them a call?

Aren't rifles shipped from Anniston? Give them a call, I'm sure they would be happy to have more of your money.

You're asking in the wrong place you need to call CMP. They will work with you and change your order.

Should you change to a "select" grade M1? I would rather have a service
grade M1. You get luck of the draw; but some have original parts.
The select grade seems to be a rebuilt GI receiver with a commercial
barrel and new made stock. That will go over like a lead balloon with
most collectors.
Part of the attraction in collecting these M1 rifles is wondering where it
has been; and what stories it could tell.

It might take a few calls to actually get a person, but once you do make sure to get their extension in case you need to call them back. The CMP people are some of the nicest and helpful people I have dealt with, I am sure they will accommodate you if it is possible. That said, for $300 you could almost buy the service grade then add the CMP stock and new barrel at a later date. Or be half way to another service grade. Or buy a boat load of ammo.

The Select grade is for folks wanting a new looking refinished rifle to shoot a lot, rather than for any collector value. Definitely be interested in seeing pics if anyone buys a Select grade.
