I'm Getting a CMP Service grade here soon! After looking at the Fulton armory site, it made me wonder, Should I send My Service grade in to have a super mac daddy M1? Or are the Service grades that nice to have that work done?

Thank you!

I sent my CMP Service Grade to Deans. It came back not only shooting great, but it looks as good as one of those new ones from Springfield (but better).

Of course, in a practical sense El Tejon is right. But I had the Iwantacoolgarand virus.

I would shoot it first and see what you think. I got a very good shooter when I bought my CMP Garand. No sense fixing something that isn't broke that is unless you are more into the cosmetic thing. I myself prefer that rugged historic look over the just came off the shelf look.

I would see what I got first and then make your decision. I know it would be nice to have an as-new rifle in the safe but sometimes I don't think it's worth the extra money. I like to leave the "character" on my Garands as it reminds me of where they might have been. It all depends on what you want for yourself.

Fulton does nice work as I had a Polytech reworked by them quite a few years ago and Clint seems to be very picky about the kind of work he turns out. Also if you do send it don't expect to get it very fast but you can expect a very nice rifle for your patience.

Why'd you order a service grade only to get it redone? CMP offers the Special Grade now for that very reason.

CMP SPECIAL: (Excellent)

CMP's new grade of M1 Garand. Limited run of 1,000 Garands available for sale beginning 17 Sept, 2007. This rifle consists of a new production stock and handguard set with CMP cartouche, a new production barrel and new leather sling. Receiver and most other parts are refinished USGI, but some parts may be new manufacture. 2007 Introductory Price is $895.00 plus S&H.

NOTE: Earlier in 2007 this grade was advertised as "CMP SELECT". Because the current rifle does not meet the same description of the "SELECT" grade we had several years ago, we have renamed it as "CMP SPECIAL".
