Been wantin' a CMP Carbine. A month ago today I got off my duff and broke out the crayons and order form. 0930 today my doorbell rang, and here's what I pulled out of the box. I included some pictures of it next to my 10/22 for comparison.

Rack grade NPM, Buffalo barrel, bore shiny as a new nickel. A 30-06 round inserted into the bore doesn't make it very far at all. I can't wait to hit the range with these two!

Carbines are so cool! Great addition to your collection! I've had one for many years...mid sixties. though I don't shoot it often, I love having it in my safe. Looks great next to the Garand. I waited a LONG time for the Garand but they make a nice pair! Now, get yourself to the range ans warm that little gun up. :D

Thanks!! CMP mails your rifle directly to your house via FEDEX overnight. Though they do do a background check, but it is not an FFL transfer. Fairly simple process; meet these requirements and mail an order form. The whole point is to redistribute service rifles to citizens. Initially, it seemed like a lot of paperwork, but it was really simple. They e-mailed me updates and the M1 showed up quick and in good health.

To qualify this, I visited a couple local gunshops before I ordered, in search of an M1 carbine. The owners of both shops I visited suggested I shoot for a CMP rifle, as it was the best rifle per dollar I could get, as long as I was elligible. Given that I spent $479 on this rifle, I'd call them correct. The application has some wickets to meet; I say it's well worth it.

Dumb question: What caliber does that baby shoot?

Looks great though and that's a awesome price

Another nice one. Seems like everybody but me got a nice rifle from the CMP. The two I bought were horrible. They must hate me.

Is that an after market stock on the 10/22?
& where did you find it at?
very nice looking 30 cal to

LDJ- This illustrates the Garand. The metal was very good as I said, but hardly a square inch of wood was free of dings, scrapes and gouges. It was so much worse than the metal I wonder if it's not the original stock. Maybe the original suffered some serious damage from being dropped and this was used to make it a complete rifle. The wood and metal do not appear to belong together.

Which one is the M1Carbine? :p That really is a fantastic looking 10/22.

Looks like an newer model (don't worry all were produced during WWII) judging by the stamped trigger guard, what range is the SN in? The Buff. barrel is standard for a NPM carbine. Does it have a dished out (flat) bolt or round one?

:)

Couldn't answer the bolt question, as this is my first M1; I haven't even taken it apart to clean it yet.
It is easily visible from the exterior. It either appears completely round on top (M2 version), or will have a dished out portion on top (earlier version, see image below). I believe yours should have a round type bolt according to age/SN, but it is on the edge of the cut-off point for the switch. BTW it was manufactured between Dec. 1943 and May 1944 (probably on the early side of this range).

So far I have had nothing but good luck with my CMP rifles. I have 4 so far and having a serious problem stopping. I just wish I could find out where all my weapons have served.
