Not being much of a Bullseye, neh Precision Pistol, shooter I hadn’t paid much attention to the goings on in that sport. Then this summer the local club announced their Bullseye matches would be held under CMP rules rather than NRA. Hmmmm. From what I read not a lot of significant difference unless you're deep into it. Things like Revolver shooters can use .32 caliber in a regular match but must be .38 or higher in a Service Revolver match. Okay, I had questions but since I only shoot it once every 5 to 10 years didn’t bother to follow up.

Now the announcement that the Bianchi Cup will be managed by CMP and there will be some rule changes, TBA. It’ll still be held on the Missouri range, since CMP doesn’t have a mover. This is on my bucket list. Just want shoot it one time. Of course not a lot of matches to practice at.

Wonder where this is headed between NRA and CMP. I assume CMP has some of its on rules in place for rifle events as well. How does that play out at camp Perry?. And for the record books? Thoughts? Insights?

I do not know of any considerable differences between NRA and CMP in 2700 bullseye matches, and I shoot bullseye regularly.

The CMP vs NRA needs to be fixed as it's impacting participation. There is only so much sponsor money to go around too. If there were a health market and plenty of cash to flow, the two organizations would make for good competition, but no one gets into the shooting sports to get rich.

There's a lot of items listed by NJ Pistol club. Things like qualifications for sub-categories, how to determine tie-breakers and how not to wear safety glasses. Granted, and especially at my very low level of participation and skill, it's not that impactful to many shooters, except maybe the classification section. Here's what they've compiled.

I agree that, and it's true for all our sports, there's a need to grow participation and awareness.

The 2 organizations do not get along nowadays. Did the NRA think they were getting charged too much to hold their matches at Camp Perry and that caused the rift? That seems to be the most logical reason. Ever since the NRA moved the Highpower championship to Camp Atterberry their attendance has been less than 100.
