Guy Accidentally Shoots Female Roommate
Bullet Went Through Basement Ceiling To Third Floor

POSTED: 11:41 am MST January 19, 2005
UPDATED: 11:46 am MST January 19, 2005

A 21-year-old man may face criminal charges after he accidentally shot his roommate in the arm Tuesday, Golden police said.

The roommate, a 20-year-old woman, was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated and released.

The man told officers that he had received a 45-caliber semi-automatic handgun the day before and wanted to try it out. He said that he didn't know the gun was loaded when he fired one round into the basement ceiling.

The bullet rocketed up from the basement, through the house, and struck the woman while she was on the third floor.

Police arrived at the home, on the 17000 block of West 16th Avenue, on the report of an accidental shooting and questioned the man. The identities of those involved were not released.

Reeeeal dumb ND.

The .45 bullet went through two floors to hit her. I'll bet it was hardball ;)

Too bad she was hurt. Wonder what that does for the relationship.

...he didn't know the gun was loaded when he fired one round into the basement ceiling.

What was this guy thinking here? At least the article puts the responsibility where it belongs. I hate reading, "the weapon discharged, blah, blah..", which sounds like the human being is only incidentally holding the thing.

He "received" the gun the day before...I wonder if someone gave it to him or if he bought it. If he bought it, the "I didn't know it was loaded" excuse is even more worthless than usual. I wonder who loaded it? I'm glad the girl is ok. Anybody here live near him? Maybe someone should explain to him the 4 rules.

He said that he didn't know the gun was loaded
:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I wonder if some folks would ''get it'' ... if a gun was wrapped/packaged - in such a way that they HAD to read the four rules several times over, BEFORE being able to be in charge of the gun.

Even a NIB gun MUST be treated as loaded .. it is the ONLY way to go - nothing anal about it, no loss of face - just the ONLY way.

And people wonder why I obsess over checking my gun? Every time you pick it up, no matter where you are or what the circumstances are, you check to make sure it's loaded. And if it's a semi-auto, you remove the magazine before you check just to make sure. Never mind that he pointed the gun in an unsafe direction.

I hope she wasn't seriously injured.

Reminds me of a couple I knew a few years back. They went to shoot some skeet with his family. She was being careless and shot a nice chunk of his leg out, just above the knee, with a 12 gauge.

BTW - shooting your significant other is not a good way of showing them you love 'em. They aren't together anymore :D

To sprinkle a little extra humiliation on top...she was the mayors daughter. So everyone knew, and everyone knew who she was. Not just some name in the paper. :uhoh:

It is stories such as this that continue to convince me, that if stupidity was terminal, our streets and cities would not be nearly so crowded...

A guy I went to school with was living in a rough neighborhood a few years ago. His laundry was in the apartment complex laundry facility and when he went to go get it he noticed an unfriendly looking group of young men hanging around the laundry. So he sticks a Ruger MKII 22 in his pants mexican style and goes to get his clothes. Comes back to his apartment and shoots himself in the corroded artery removing the gun from his pants.
He almost bled to death before help arrived.

HV ... was that a rust problem then, the artery??? :neener:

Sorry couldn't resist. :p

I'd imagine you meant the femoral (groin) ... the carotid is in the neck and coulda been somewhat terminal - quick .... quicker than femoral.
