Hey folks,

Over 30 years ago my dad gave me a Daisy CO2 BB pistol. I loved it.

My son (6) is starting to shoot a 22 rifle and quite well. He loves my handguns and was thinking of getting him a CO2 pistol like I had.

I was looking in the MidwayUSA flyer and saw quite a variety. One was a clone of the S&W M&P for $40. Anyone have any experienc with these? Any suggestions? I haven't shot one in 25 years.

Thanks in advance for the help.

If it's not too big for his hands, go for it. Just continue all safety practices that apply to the handling of a firearm. CO2-powered air guns haven't changed much in the lat 25 years, though there is a greater selection. Operation remains pretty much the same. Virtually all will be single-shot when used with pellets (exceptions include the revolvers), and some will be repeaters with BB shot. Rifled barrels give greater accuracy, but that might not be as critical to a six-year old. Make sure it's him you're getting this for.

Medwheeler,

Well, ya, it's for me a little too. I can't imaging a much better time sitting on the porch and plinking at cans with a virtually silent gun. Kind of like using the pellet rifle, but more challenging. We always practice safety and he listens well and applies to what he's taught. He's taking karate at the YMCA and is very disciplined. Once he masters the co2pistol, he gets to try the 22/45.

Thanks for the feedback. And ya, for $40, the risk is pretty low.

Pellets will be much less likely to riccochet than BBs. I'd skip the BBs and find something that will shoot pellets.

True, but the pellet CO2 pistols with magazines are a pain to reload compared to the BB type with magazines. Whether detachable or internal. It will depend on the backstop which choice is better for the user.
