I have a new Stoeger Coach Gun, 12 gauge, around halfway through the 2nd box of shells I experienced the recoil from the first shot triggering the safety so the second trigger wouldn’t pull. It’s a top tang switch, not a button. It pushes forward to fire position, so it seems counterintuitive that recoil would push it to the rear to safe position. I ran out of shells before I could determine whether there was an issue with one trigger or the other.

That's kinda weird. Does your shotgun have the auto engaging safety like the condors? I liked my outback, but I preferred not to keep it loaded until I was ready to fire it due to it not having hammers to cock. My plan was to store it broken open with shells installed then snap it shut. My fear was that I would forget to deactive the safety in a hurry.

Does the safety move itself to the on position when the barrels are opened? If so I wonder if recoil forces are affecting that link engagement. Edit--Fiv3r already asked that

I used a Stoeger coach gun in Cowboy Action competition and disconnected the auto safety engage mechanism. Never had a problem with it engaging from recoil after that.

I have one. They are pretty much rubbish but it does for CAS. As Coyote notes above, the best thing to do is just disconnect the safety since it is unreliable in any event. Pop the stock off and you’ll see how the mechanism “works” and how to disconnect it.

Try laying your thumb along the stock rather than across it and see if that doesn't solve your problem. You are not the first.
Thanks for the tips! When I got it I viewed an article about disabling the safety. The current problem- safe won’t open. The upper half of the electronic keypad went dead ( numbers 1 through 6) so I’ll have to call the helpline on that after the holidays.

Do yourself a favor and get an S&G dial lock for your safe. Cost about $200. installed, and it should last for generations.
I have a coach, look nice from outside but they are crude made. I bought it because I had credit and gift card with Basspro.
For my CAS shooting I have to remove the safety slide (just push a pin out and painted the safety mark outside), the bluing is thick just cover the machine marks.
I've tested after cutting 2 coils spring to make usable, no problem.
There are few videos on the funny tube to do it.
