I'm setting up to load the 124 gr XTP in 9mm for the first time...

I'll be pushing it with 4.5 gr of W231

Can some of you guys who have loaded this bullet please recommend a COAL for reliable feeding?

Hornady 8th edition lists 1.060" with the 124 XTP in 9MM. I've loaded at this length and have had no problems in 2 pistols.

COAL should be what works in your weapons, within stated pressure limits for your charge.

Stated "static" lengths assume "static" guns, of which there are few outside of a lab.

Apparently all the commercial ammo. manufacturers have figured out how to pick a COAL for their bullets that will cycle reliably in the vast majority of pistols. :^)

And most of those differ between ammo manufacturers. Often, within boxes of the same ammo.

Its called "tolerances". In this case, tolerance from SAAMI norms for chamber dimensions.

What works within his weapons may differ, sometimes substantially, from "standard".

I use an OAL of 1.095" with an XTP/HP bullet but like said above, Hornady recommends an OAL of 1.060" so there's are some numbers to work with.

The most recent Hornady data I have says they load the 124gr #35571 HP-XTP to a COL of 1.060". FWIW the data does not list loads using W231 or HP38 for that matter.
