I've been reloading for around 7 months. I use lead bullets and primarily shoot Glocks. I get my bullets from SNS casting, and noticed a coated option for their bullets, as opposed to normal lead bullets (http://www.snscasting.com/new-9mm-115-grain-round-nose-coated-1000ct/). They are currently $1 less per 1k than the uncoated bullets. Are those safe to shoot in a stock Glock barrel? I currently have drop in barrels for my Glocks, but plan to keep adding, so saving the $150 for a barrel on top of the cost of a pistol would be nice.

I just started using Bayou Bullets 150gr, coated lswc in 9mm.

They are very good a keeping the barrel clean and no more smoke than shooting plated/fmj bullets.

In a Glock 17, and Glock 34.

be safe

Awesome. Thanks for the replies. Just didn't know if the coating prevented lead build up in the polygonal rifling.

Excellent thread and test blarby! Do you use load data for lead bullets or plated bullets when loading coated bullets?

There was on site that I looked at that had really good prices, however, when looking at the FAQ the made a point of not recommending some powers claiming that they burn "too hot" for accurate results. The power that killed the deal for me is Tite Group that I have been using for both 9mm and 45ACP with good results (Precision Delta FMJ and X-treme plated) So order a small amount and test before you commit to a large order.

I believe accuracy obtained from coated bullets depends on greater degree from hardness of the lead alloy used and quality of the casting/sizing.

Just because coating will protect from leading the barrel to 2700-3200 fps doesn't mean use of jacketed load data will produce accuracy.

Don't know, never tried. I shoot lead exclusive from my glock 19 and I'm maybe 10k rounds in with 2-3 barrel cleanings. Put about 3k rounds thru it in two high round count run n guns. Ran a dry patch through the barrel and I see a mirror finish. Can't speak for coated, but my own lead reloads are divine.
If you're interested in lead look into slugging your barrel and ordering the correct diameter, and check cases for swaging if it's a 9mm. Casting your own is the best and cheapest way.
Good luck with your search and I hope my bias didn't shine through ;)

I run Falcon Bullet Company's Falcoated as well as cast and powder coat my own. I also shoot most of them out of factory glock barrels. They work fantastic. Those Falcoated are real nice though. I've actually been able to reduce charges by as much as 20% in some cases and still achieve the same velocity I was getting with regular HC and Jacketed bullets. That Falcoated is in a league of its own.
