Coincidence or not when reloading

Is it a coincidence or not?? Maybe I am just lucky--but. When loading up some 38 SPL yesterday (2K) batch style I noticed that as I would grab a handful of bullets and place them on the filled brass that I would grab the exact amount to finish the block more times than not. This while grabbing 10 or more bullets out of the bin at a time without actually counting them. Do you do this also or am I just reading something into a time consuming task to keep my mind busy? I have also done this with a pile of brass and primers on occasion. I have even done this as an electrician also. Think ty-wrap anchors and the screws to mount them or flex connectors and anti shorts or conduit straps and mounting screws. SO am I weird or do you think is it something else??

Muscle memory. If you're making 2,000 of anything, you start to develop a feel for what everything weighs, how much space it takes up in your hand, etc.

I don't reload as much as you but when I started I had to count out 50 cases at a time when I wanted to reload handgun ammo (I load in batches of 50 for handgun cartridges). After a year and 3,000 rounds on a single-stage press, I can more or less grab two handfulls and pick out 50 cases right away.

At the range, I have also noticed that I get in the habit of picking a certain number of cartridges out at a time to load my guns. I automatically grab 6 for revolvers and 10 for autos.

I agree, it's like muscle memory. Your mind and your eye can see things you don't notice consciously. After a while you just know how many to grab.

I do the same thing at work. Often I"ll pull down exactly how many bags I need.

That makes good sense to me. I never thought about it that way before but like the old saying---practice makes perfect.

There is a whole lot that the brain tells the body that we never even give any thought to...but the brain is thinking all the time. Just let your nose itch... watch what your hand does! If something flies toward your face... watch your hands cover your face and your head turns away! Endless little things like that...

Eons ago I worked for a medical equipment manufacturer. The machines had an 8-digit pass code for service access. I was working contract and had a 6 month break between assignments.
When I came back, damned if I couldn't remember the access code. The wierd part was that I put my hand on the keypad and my fingers just ran through the code.
And yes I've grabbed a handful of bullets and come close on what I needed.

I have the exact opposite problem.

If I need 17 primers I dump out 23.

If I need 11 bullets I pick up 9.

That's how I keep my hunting skills honed in the winter months without freezing my extremities solid. BTW if you keep the mess under control on the floor finding and reusing them is no problem. All mine over the years that I recovered were used as plinking ammo as a precaution but that was not necessary as all went bang.
