Collecting different ammunitions

well, Tony Williams is a member of this board and you can always ask him how many years and how much effort it took to assemble such a collection ;)
Be warned that while it starts as inexpensive hobby, it grows up in time.
First specimen could cost you anything from nothing to a dollar; but really rare stuff can be seen going for $100 or even more per single round.

Actually that sounds kind of cool. I guess in a real small way I do that. I have a 20mm cannon round, 50 caliber for grins.

I wonder since inception of the cartridge how many different calibers there are. If you got obsessive with manufacturers and loads and lead versus jacket etc and HAD to have one of each it would be a time and money consuming obsession for sure. One thousand, two?

the last issue of the Cartridges of the world book lists about 1600+ different cartridges (not different loadings of same cartridge) and it is far from being complete. So i assume 2000+ different names in sub-20mm caliber would be a fair estimate.
Go figure.
