Reporting from Colorado Springs, Colo. - This conservative city is taking an unusual, some might say extreme, step to try to stem its fiscal woes: It's entering the gun business.

The Colorado Springs City Council is expected in coming weeks to approve the final details of a program that would allow the Police Department to sell confiscated firearms to federally licensed gun dealers. Police have already stopped melting down the hundreds of guns they collect from crime scenes, drug houses or civilians who don't need them anymore.

WOW! That'd be FANTASTIC! Of course, not much need for more Hi-Point or Raven Arm's firearms, but I'm sure they get the occassional decent weapon. Not to mention the fact that it's absurd for an ailing department to destroy a fungible asset.

Good job Colo Springs!

I love the English language.

That sentence most likely means:

"hundreds of guns they collect from crime scenes that don't need them any more, drug houses that don't need them any more, or civilians who don't need them any more..."

Also, an astute reader might infer that the civilians in question are dead, given that "he doesn't need it any more" is often used in that context.
