Does anybody out there like it? I like it a lot. Besides, the conversation on this site is dragging terribly. Maybe this will put a little life into it...Okay...

edit to remove enormous pic, for thos using dial up it would take two days to load looking for smaller one

okay here is one not ridiculous in size

colt-model-1849-pocket-2.jpg

looks like my navy colt just smaller barreled and shoots a smaller ball

Nice though, who wouldn't want one? :)

I bought this FIE 1849 .31 last year for $85.00. It was made in 1971. Fun to shoot (O buckshot = .320), pain in the neck to load.
Don't dump on the guys running this site - posting pics is easy.

posting pics is easy.

Easy if the pic is maintained on a website, impossible near as I can tell if it is on your hard drive.

Didn't this sight used to have a way of uploading pics from your hard drive?

Im283, the one you posted had a silver plate on the brass parts once..

pohill , and engraved? thats a cool deal if ever there was one..

FIE isn't known for quality firearms, but this one isn't bad at all, especially at that price. Kittery Trading Post...
They have a few original 1849 .31s at Kittery. One is cased with all the goodies. Only $4995.00. Oh well, I got to play with it for a few minutes.

Yes, it did. And it still does.

The image will appear as a thumbnail at the bottom of your post. Readers can click on the thumbnail to see a large copy of the image.

The above method was used to attach my avatar image to this message as a thumbnail.

Kittery has some nice originals - for example, they have an 1861 .36 original for $4000, and a Peacemaker for $25,000. And, like I said, they let you play with them.
I was there yesterday, and last week, and the week before. I even bought ski boots there.
Let me know - it's 20 minutes from my house.

pohill my system just spazed in the 51 How To thread and I doubled too..

myleal, I didn't know I could up load off my system thanks!

GotC not worth getting wound up about. Even if pics aren't working here now there has been a lot of good info and exchange of ideas here today.

Shawnee, the Kittery Trading Post is in Kittery, Maine.
This is their site:
http://www.kitterytradingpost.com/

Click on Used Guns (left side near the top)
Scroll down to Search Our Guns
Click on ACTION
Then MUZZLELOAD HANDGUN

It gives a list of some some of the guns they have

GoC, try opening an account with photobucket.com. It is a free image hosting site. You can then copy the URL of the image, click on the picture button at the top of the posting window, and paste the URL of the image in there. It will put image tags around the URL so that your picture will appear in the post just like this:

Hmm.

The thumbnail image I posted in my message above is still working for me....and DixieTexian's embedded image worked for me also.

Good morning out there in computer land. Went to sleep about 2200hrs last night, got up this morning and everything's fine. How about that?
What I do is download from the camera to the computer and then re-size them for myself from 2800 down to 700. It only take's a couple of minutes and is a simple process. The way Mr. MyKeal was saying. I don't like using third parties to do my work.
Thanks for the advice though. I do appreciate it. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and just say---"the site was probably having trouble due to weather or something."

Mr. Pohill, how are you loading those 320's in that '49? Mine uses .323 balls. I talked to someone once about firing some type (size) of buckshot in mine. We decided that it would be better not to do it. I don't remember all of the particulars right offhand. I know the buckshot is a lot cheaper and that's why I was inquiring about it...Okay...

I use O buckshot, which is .320, and they shave a nice ring of lead. I tried
.310 but they were too small, though they did load easily with thumb pressure. The small loading lever of the gun makes ramming tough, so I use a long socket over the end for leverage. I don't want to break the loading lever with too much pressure, and I don't want to break my hand either. It's not a fun gun to load, but it's a shooter.
