Mr. Pohill, yeah, I guess I'll stick with the .323's.
You're right. The '49 is a good shooter. People don't give it enough credit. Has a surprisingly good little buck and jump to it to for it's size and caliber. I like it a whole lot...Okay...

Bigbadgun, good morning. Are you spying on me?! (just joking) Yeah, I'vd got a few ends and pieces I'vd rounded up here and there. Five is all I'vd got, but they're all good and they're clean and they shoot good. (got lots and lots of accessories, spare parts, etc.)
I don't half step when it comes to something like that, Bigbadgun. I know you don't either. (probably very few people on here do but I'm even more so) If something happens to one of my pieces (never has yet because I take good care of them) I want it repaired and I want it repaired right. I don't want to hear any of that 'maybe' and 'I think so' and 'probably'. Like I told you, I live way back in Wyoming and I depend on my guns to get my meat and to protect me and I cannot afford to be caught back in there with a firearm that broke because of some half ass repair job, or one that wouldn't fire and cycle properly because it was dirty.
How're you doing this morning? I hope you're doing well.
Well, talk to you later, sir...Okay...

I made that holster myself. It is my second attempt at holster making, so I think I did an alright job. Only thing is the leather isn't as thick as I would like, but it was all I had.

Can I play too??

Here's mine, having been aged slightly (vinegar for the blue, ammonia for the brass) with a holster and belt handmade for me by a friend.. I think it's my favourite in my collection. :D

Preposterous! - what size balls do you use? Like I said earlier, I use O buckshot, which is .320. Do you cast your own roundballs?

Preposterous, that's a nice looking rig. Did you make it?

BBG, your's is super nice also.
Boy!! That black outfit there look's mean as hell!! You sure you're not kin to Curly Bill or Ringo or Buckskin Frank Leslie or one of them other good ol' boys?!...Okay...

Pohill, I don't cast my 320 - use Buffalo IIRC. However.... I do cast .380 RB for my '51 Navy - so will be ordering a mould (sorry.. mold ) from Lee soon.

GOTC, It was made by a member of my club for me. He has given up making them sadly, before he would make me one for the '51 :( The brass peg up by the trigger guard cut out is to attach a strap across the back of the hammer for safer carry. (while on the range, of course..)

Glad you like them :D

Preposterous!

Preposterous!, Yes, one musn't forget about all the open range there in London!!
It is a nice looking rig seriously. You must be proud of it. I would be.
That hammer loop (I use a rawhide throng looped through the holster) does come in handy to help keep it from slipping out of the holster when you're climbing around and so forth.
Too bad he quit making them...Okay...

Single "0" buck............ .320 inch is a perfect fit in my Uberti 49..........................Bob

Well, understand here first off..I'm not trying to argue. I'm not that sort of person. Here's my stand on it. Cabela's went over this with me about 3 years ago. They still have it in my customer record I just found out.
I had been wanting to use buckshot because you can buy several pounds of it very cheaply as compared to the 100 count per pack of .323's.
She trotted out the facts and figures once again just a few moments ago, plus my record. Uberti recommend's the .323. (which I already knew anyway)
She said that even though the .320 may shave off a bit of lead when it was inserted, there was still a potential problem of a gas leak because it simply did not fit as tight as Uberti recommended for the '49 because of the size of their charge holes. (chambers)
She also told me that by using the .323 I would get better accuracy and certainly more power.
That power part I certainly agree with which is the reason I use .457 balls in my mainstay, the Walker, as opposed to the .454's. Never having fired a .454 in the Walker I have nothing to relate to concerning the accuracy. Using that system of measurement one may think that therefore I would have no way of knowing if the .457 actually had more power. But I do know. When that .457 leave's the chamber it has a lot more energy and force behind it than a smaller, looser fitting ball.
I shave off more lead from the .457 than I would from the .454. I shave more lead off of the .323 than I would off of the single buck .320.
If .320 suit's someone then let them use it and may God bless them, but I want all the energy that I cause to be generated concentrated on pushing the ball and not being wasted by leaking out around the ball. (a good protective coating of Crisco over the balls notwithstanding)
I submit this respectfully...Okay...

You gotta do what you gotta do. But the way I see it, if a .454 ball shaves lead, and a .457 ball shaves more lead (in a Walker), the ball that is left in the chamber is the same size, no matter what ball you started with. You could use a .490 in a Walker and shave even more lead, but the fit would be the same in the chamber. With the bigger ball you put more stress on the loading lever.
This is what I got from my Walker 2 weeks ago in the cold and snow at 50 yards: (good enough for me)

That Walker's so loud it woke up the attack dogs - well, almost.

Mr. Pohill, yeah, there's logic to what you say except that some balls do not fit properly and so do not shave a complete and uniform ring and therefore leaves the potential for a leak because the walls of the chamber do not fit uniformly tightly all around the ball. Well, anyway.
Good looking Walker you'vd got there. Were you using a one hand or two hand hold?
Yes sir, Walkers are loud. Hell, if you stop and think about it, all blackpowder firearms are loud.
How's your hired killer sisters with the (Spencers?) doing? Fine I hope. They getting any prettier?!...Okay...

That was two handed. I also shot at 100 yds but the snow was too deep to keep checking the targets. I'll wait for the spring then work on it.
As long as the Nuns with Guns keep smiling, we're OK.

Is that the Wells Fargo model? You use the cylinder pin (arbor) to load the balls, correct?

Yep

You can use the cylinder pin. I found that a cheap magnetic bit screwdriver without the bit in it does fine, too for pushing the ball in.

The Doc is out now.

Pocket Model without loading Lever. Named "Wells Fargo" by collectors even though the company has no records of any .31 revolver purchases:
