Today I ran across this at a gunstore. It has been reblued and in additon has had a newer rear sight and and adjustable rear sight added. Other than that it still has original markings and parts. The only serial no. that doesnt match is the cylinder latch but it is only 1 number off. The gun is is sound mechanical condition. I didnt buy it to be a safe queen. It has all the correct markings on the barrel. it has the initals R.A.C on the frame and cylinder. The serial number is 37XX1. The barrel is marked "United States Property", Colt D.A. 45, patent dates on the top, last one is July 1905.I picked it up for $450.00. It still has the lanyard atttachment and what appears to be the origan grips with a medallion showing an eagle gripping arrows and something else????

When I did some research it siad the revolver was chambered for a cartridge similar to the .45 Colt but with a wider rim to enhance extraction. MY question is can I shoot .45 Colt (long) out of it?

Yes, you can shoot standard .45 Colt out of a sound 1909. Its special wide rim cartridges were only made at Frankford Arsenal for the few years until they had made enough 1911s to take over.
Colt sold many, many commercial New Service revolvers in .45 Colt and they seem to have worked ok.
