I recently found one of the Colt 1918 WWI reissues for sale locally for $650. It has the box and magazines and does not appear to have been fired. It is in perfect condition. I know these went for quit a bit MSRP, but is this a decent price for this gun? Not sure of the market these days. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

That is a good price, way below the new price when adjusted for inflation. Many folks bought those guns thinking they had a guaranteed investment that would increase in value. Didn't happen, partially because Colt made commemoratives of just about everything and drove the market down.

They were MSRP $1100 guns and sold as a good deal at $950+ for the Carbonia Blue take about $50 off for the black Oxide.

If it's a polished, bright blue finish it's carbonia blue, rarer and generally more desirable than the black oxide finish that was the next version. Either one is a SMOKIN' deal for 650. If you don't want it PM me and let me know where it is.

Seriously, dude... get over and buy that thing. The price is so good it makes me wonder if it's really a colt or if you've mistaken another brand for it or something.

No, I do know guns and have owned colts and it's definitely a colt (blue box, wax paper, mustang, us property, etc. Just didn't know about these particular guns or the differences in the finish. Thanks for the help.

If the serial number suffix is WWI, it's the black oxide 01918 model. If it's WMK it's the carbonia blue 01911 model. Either would be smokin' at $650, but the 01911 is rarer, they were a limited production run.

Sweet pistols! I paid $900 for my 01911, and it was used.

Both the 01911 "Carbonia Blue" and 01918 "Black Oxide" were limited production runs and are no longer produced. There were actually less made of the 01918 Black Oxides. Both runs were intended to be 4,000 pistols each, but went a little over that. I forget the exact numbers but they made more of the 01911's.

I paid $899 plus transfer fee for my 01918's at the end of their production run, and they've appreciated a bit since then. $650 is a steal!
