Just like the title says: New WWI Colt Reissue or Colt Series 70?

I have the chance to buy either one:

NIB WWI Colt reissue for $900
or a
NIB Series 70 MKIV for $835

I started off this quest for the WWI because, out of all the guns I've ever had, the one I regret selling the most was my original WWI Colt dated 1918. I wish I could get it back, but that ship has sailed. So when I found out about the reissue I got all giddy again. It will be a shooter, maybe 4-5 times a year. All my shooting is bench rested at 25yrds. And then there is the new Series 70. I've read about these, sounds like they're a decent target gun, a slightly improved 1911A1.

Nostalgia is making me lean towards the WWI Colt. Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions? I'm pretty set on another Colt, and I like the plain jane vanilla style, GI sights, triggers, etc etc etc.... Just looking for people's opinions what they think is the better value/gun?

Good question. I dunno. I just assumed they were all carbonia blue. I'll have to call on that and find out.

The original WWI repro was Carbonia Blue and the subsequent 1918 WWI repro is Black Oxide.

I only have 2 colts at the moment...I had a 1911a1 but passed it to my dad after we went shooting one day. He didn't have a colt and thought it was cool. The other two I own weren't subject to sale, trade etc regardless if you're a family member.

My O1918 sports some nutmeg ivory grips, my xse is still factory. The 1918 is subject to some recall right now to replace a part. I haven't returned mine yet. I don't see me getting rid of either one of these - they will passed to my sons when I'm wormfood.

I just got off the phone with the gunshop today. S/N ends in WWI so its a Black Oxide finish. I was hoping for the Carbonia. But for $899.99, no matter, I'm gonna go for it. Providing I sell my Springfield this Thur and all. But this should be fun.

Oh yeah, I seen that one about a week ago. DROOL!

So I got my Springfield sold today. Looks like I'll be picking up my WWI Colt tomorrow or Saturday. I can't wait. I think the only issue I may have, may not, but I have about 450rds of conical nosed reloads. I had to have the ejection port relieved a little to eject live rounds when hand cycling.

I have a bunch of commercial ball ammo too. So I may have to unload these reloads, not a huge issue. Maybe it'll be fine, if not, off to the classifieds I go!

I want that pistol so much, but I will only be able to buy one, and the hammer bite keeps me from moving on a spur grip safety 1911.

I got to shoot a Spring 1911 GI and it didn't bite at all, but its no Colt.

Not even Made in the USA.

I remember the first time I shot my real WWI colt. I got a nice little layer shaved off my hand. Owe!

Its just in how you hold the gun. Small price to pay for a whole lotta pistol!

Yeah I checked on that. I wrote it on a piece of paper before I went up there. All 3 they had were above the recall range so I'm good.
