Ok, I said ejector but I may be wrong.

The pistol
Colt model 70 or 80? I think 80
Lots of mods such as trigger, beveled magwell and opened up ejector port. In fact I believe not much on this pistol is stock.

The situation
Pistol shoots like a champ right on the money!
Only a few stove pipes was with downloaded ammo.
After 700 rounds it started kicking brass out right past my right ear.
Now I have to hold it just right or it hits me in the face.
Does the same with +p and off the shelf loadings both ball and HP.
I shoot only off the shelf ammo and only a few weak reloads by accident (grabbed a mag off the bench my buddy had filled with his low power reloads)

I'm sure its a worn piece but I'm looking for a few opinions before a smith tries to over sell me on other doodads.

Great pistol! Love it alot.
Bought it from a competition shooter who was hurting for cash fast. I am in no way a 1911 mechanic as the most I do is swap out recoil springs when I spend a day with +p ammo

If the ejector is in place, not loose of visibly broken, I'd go on to the extractor and see if the hook is broken or chipped, or tension might be gone on it.

With the slide off, try to twist the ejector sideways back & forth.

One of the two legs my be broken allowing it to rotate when the case rim hits it.
