I saw this Govt model at a pawn shop being sold on consignment. He said it's never been fired, I can believe it because it looks new. He wouldnt let me strip it, but the slide stop is clearly forged steel. It was going for $1500.

Tuner, you'd love this; it is a thing of beauty!

Is it worth the price?

Would that shop let you take a picture of the 1911? You could post it here and get pretty good opinion on it by 1911tuner and DSK as well as others.

Price sounds sorta high though, I dont think it should break the $1000 mark, but what do I know. :D

How about this 1911? (no it is not for sale.) I picked it up for 500 dollars about 3 years ago, it was made in 1943. Nice piece, but for some reason the front is darker than the rest.

EDIT: Would anyone have a suggestion to make it more uniform without refinishing?

Darker

Howdy dwave,

The darkened areas...front of the slide and around the slidestop notch...is due to those areas being spot heat-treated. They're a little harder than the rest of the slide, and darkened during parkerizing as a result. Refinishing won't help...It'll just do it again.

The markings just below the slidestop pad at the top/front of the grip...
What letters are they?
