I saw the 1911 picture thread, but I was hoping for some comments and critique so I started this new thread. My father put this stuff together over several years and now I am sharing it with you all. He knew much more about this firearm than I ever will hope to. I dont remember where/when he got all this stuff, but it was several years ago and likely over many a gun show.
Seems I can only upload 4 pics, will try more later.

Set includes
Colt 1911 serial number dated to 1918 with combat slide all in great shape!
Original diamond grips. New grips mounted with Colt Pony emblem.
Colt 1911 additional slide with adjustable sights including barrel, barrel bushing, slide spring.
Colt 1911 parts, including extra slide spring, firing pin, arched mainspring housing with lanyard, and a barrel bushing.
Original holster dating to 1917 marked Rock Island Arsenal.
Two original bi-colored clips, one with lanyard.
Full box of 20 Peters govt ball ammunition dated to 1918 all marked PC Co. 18.
Additional examples of period ammo, tracer marked WCC 66; paper shotshell marked EC; ball round marked REM-UMC 18; ball round marked W.R.A. CO .45 A.C.; ball round marked F A 18
Hallock's .45 AUTO Handbook printed 1980 with author signature.
The Colt .45 Automatic A shop manual printed 1989.

Let me know if you think this collection is missing something. Most of all, enjoy!

Very nice M1911 there along with some interesting memorabilia and accessories. As rcmodel stated, a period pistol belt and magazine pouch (I have always liked those made by the Mills Co.), would make for an excellent addition to your collection. Thanks for sharing.

early 1911 experts help?

If there are some early 1911 'experts' out there who can help me value this collection for insurance purposes I would appreciate your input. Not for sale, but I want to insure it.

The pistol is in near perfect condition with no rust or pitting. There are a few either handling marks, storage marks, or holstering marks (small nicks) on either side of the combat slide near the muzzle. The blue on the frame near the muzzle is down to about 75% from the action of the slide. Other than that, there are zero scratches, nicks or anything I can see. All other bluing is 95% or better. All the markings are sharp and crisp. The second slide with adj sights is in great shape. Both barrels have distinct rifling and the bores are shiny. Both sets of grips are sharp. This weapon was definitely in storage, not in the field ~ ever.

Is there a way to date the second slide?

M1911 circa 1916-18 pistols on Gunbroker are high priced. They claim 90% plus, but the pictures make them look third tier compared to this pistol.
