I have nearly put my money down twice for a new Colt 1911 WW1 repro but each time I found myself questioning the appearance of the slide and frame lettering. The lettering is sharply raised on the edges on this particular pistol while the SN is weakly struck. Is this typical for the Colt repros and authentic to the 1917 period it is trying to duplicate? Thanks, Bill

I actually have a 1918 production United States Property Colt M1911. The lettering, or roll marks, on the slide and the serial number and stampings on the rest of the gun are all equally deep and sharp. I am actually thinking about selling it for around $1500.00 and buying a Rock Island 1911A1 and a new M1991A1 and saving the rest.
