Yeah, I know you need more info, but a local classified just popped up with a distant picture of little help and not much info to work from.

Serial # is 232649, which, according to proof house is 1918.

Supposed to have bakelite panels (and that medallion looks out of place to me), but has been reblued according to the owner.

Owner thinks it's a Colt factory refurb. I've tried reading up on re-arsenal marks, but don't know a hill of beans about them.

He's firm at $800.

What say you?

I wish I could get that much for my GI 1918 1911 (not A1) as a shooter. Colt rebuild would be much better than an arsenal rebuild in my opinion. Colt rebuild implies a commercial model and might be worth the $800 but too high for a GI arsenal rebuild shooter IMHO. But, how much do you want it ?

Unless it's a total mismatch of parts, any good-shooting 1911 would go for $800. But do some more homework about the 1918 production before deciding. Also google Colt Black Army for more info on the 1918 vintage.

Good luck.

The panels should be fine checkered walnut - Bakelite did not come around until WWII. It really appears that even from that photo, the hammer is a WWII unit and not period-correct, but it could be just the photo.

The Black Army guns were later (about 50,000 or more) than that s/n. It's really impossible to say more without detailed photos from four to six angles.

He sold it an hour ago.

So, tomorrow I'm going to look at a 1913 prod. model.

I'll try to get some good pics.

Thanks
