I have many 2nd gen Colt Blackpowder guns manufactured from 1971-1982 or so. They are extremely well made and the finish is outstanding. I have steered clear of the 3rd GEN Signature series since they were not touched by Colt at all, but the name was licensed to Iver Johnson. Recently, I acquired the 1849 "150th Anniversary" Gold Rush Pocket Navy which I admired from a distance before purchasing. It was one of the last 3rd GEN guns made in ~1999. Anyway, the gun is absolutely SWEET! .31 caliber, outstanding fit and finish - probably better than many of my 2nd GEN guns! The royal blue finish is immaculate. I will post a few pics as soon as I have the time. I have no idea how many of these were made, etc and can find no info on them, but this is one sweet gun! I also have the Colt Signature repro 1861 special 3-band musket. I stripped that down completely and the only differences between this gun and the original are the screws (modern threads), a 4 digit serial number on the right side of the barrel, and the Colt signature on the trigger bow. Very nice!

There is a forum devoted to collecting C&B replica revolvers with a great deal of information about the "colt" revolvers. You might like to find it and read about some of the recent discoveries.
