colt 45 acp stainless...no feed ramp...

I purchased off this site a colt combat commander model.

I was loading it and noticed there is no feed ramp from the grip frame upto the barrel chamber...? Or at the chamber end of the barrel?

First time I have EVER seen NO FEED RAMP....

Is this right?

Multiple choice:

A: This is your first gun of 1911 family and you have never seen a pistol with a "two piece" feed ramp, partly machined into the frame, partly machined into the barrel.

B: You bought an incomplete gun that had not had either the frame or barrel completely machined.

Hi Jim, I think it might be A ...searching Youtube and I found a video and the grip frame looks the same in the video as mine does where the round should feed into the chamber...trying to find a better video........

I did notice in the video there seemed to be a full length guide rod but in mine when I removed the barrel there was just a spring and the base pin with the loop ...should there have been a guide rod?

What I figured.

A full length guide rod is an add on of debatable value. Some like them, some don't.

The baseline Colt design has a short recoil spring guide.
I do not know if that is what you mean by "base pin with the loop."
Please look at a parts diagram and refer to things by the standard terms.

base pin with the loop: the barrel linkage which is secured to the frame with the pin you push from the left side thru to the right side after it is aligned with the slide...

next colt 45 acp I get will have the paper work... with the schematic's .....!!!!!!!

Slide stop?

or maybe barrel link.

The link is a small piece with two holes and does not come off the bottom rear of the barrel. The slide stop is a lever on the left of the pistol, with a pin that goes through the frame, and then the link on the barrel, and then the frame again...

If your gun did not come with a recoil spring guide, part no 41 on the Numrich diagram linked by ghitch75, you were sold an incomplete pistol.

Note: A Commander takes a shorter recoil spring guide than a Government Model.

If it is there and we are operating in a state of confusion, I suggest you go to

Well, I had to ask.
There was a post on one of the gunboards recently where a gun did come in with no recoil spring guide at all. The recoil spring was just bearing right on the link lug of the barrel.
