Colt 45 deal

Seems kinda like an "I oughta get two..." price.

Definitiely $600.00 well spent in any case.

Hope it's not a "swan song".

Wish I had some spare cash right now for another Colt. BTW, note that the rebate is NOT cash. It is a prepaid debit card. If its like most other rebate cards, you can only spend off the prepaid balance, you can't cash it out or move the funds into your bank account.

Good time to buy a Colt! Wish I could pick one up but HK has a $200 rebate going on. Years ago I had a Colt Commander in 38 Super, sure wish I could get that one back.

They show a blued gun in the photos, but the ad says it has a "parkerized finish". What's up with that?

I thought the same and put it down to a cost cutting "interpretation" of classic parkerizing.

Matte blue/semi-gloss park?

Either way, looks like a nice work-a-day finish doesn't it?

That's a great price! If I didn't already have one I would definitely snap one of those up right now.

Darn it! I wish you guys would stop sharing info like this.:D Now I am going to find how I can afford to buy this Colt!

But, what a deal!

Ummm still a good price but the real price is $599 after the rebate. It's $600 not $500.

I may be stupid but what is a Colt 1991?
A 1991 is what Colt calls the basic, no frills 1911 in their line up.
Back in 1991 They introduced the "Enhanced" models. For those who wanted a more basic, true to the original 1911A1 they offered the M1991A1.
Although it isn't quite the same as what they offered in 1991, it is still what they call their entry level gun.

$500 with MIR, for a new GOVT model, this must be the nail in the coffin for Colt. This gun was almost 3x that much a year ago in stores. easily double the price.

A year ago the market was significantly different.

This particular model of Colt originally came out as the basic, no-frills 1911 platform. Basically a Colt 1911 with the Series 80 modifications and that's it. I bought mine when it first came out for, if memory serves me, $450 (tax included). Historically speaking, it hasn't been that pricey of a gun.

I think it's a great gun, and the fact that it's been around for nearly a quarter century now should speak volumes as to what the general market thinks of it.

Heh! You're going about it wrong. It's easy-peasy to turn it into cold, hard cash. Next time you buy groceries or put gas in your cars, use it and put the money you would have spent out of your paycheck into your pocket.

It's all a game!

;)

The one they show has a 1911 trigger and MSH, not a 1911A1 style.
Is that correct for the 1991? I would hope so, because I prefer those to the arched MSH and short trigger of the A1.

Ordered a 1991 from a vendor and plan to use the $100 rebate. My credit card is also going to give me $100 back. Pretty good deal and I've always wanted a Colt 1911. No collection is complete without one.

This is what the actual 1991 looks like, bought this one back in 2011 when they had a the 100th anniversary engraving.

Please keep in mind that Colt has been going out of business or going bankrupt practically sense the first day Sam Colt opened the place :D .

Good time to buy a Colt!

That is a heck of a deal on a 1991. If I didn't just buy a new Series 70, I might have picked that one up. Someone here probably already has .

A few weeks ago I paid $880 for my new Mk IV Series 70 "reproduction." It needs a little tweaking though. The trigger is so-so (typical of most 1911s in this price range, including Colt), but that's easy enough to remedy. And the ejector needs a little attention as it tosses brass back over my head. Its improving with break-in, though in the first 15 rounds out of the box (I did clean it of course) I had 3 cases ding me in my right side safety glass lense :p .

No worries, it did run perfectly and feels great to shoot. It looks really nice too :) . God help me, I'm a sucker for bluing and wood stocks!

I really like the new barrel ramp design Colt is using, well, I'm not sure how new it really is. The Series 70 repros use it, and I'm assuming other Colt 1911s do as well. More info here:

http://www.m1911.org/prodte26.htm

"There is another internal change in the new pistols, and it's definitely a welcome one. The barrel ramp/chamber entry throat is a new style designed to allow reliable feeding of all bullet shapes, yet at the same time not allow an excessive amount of case brass to be left unsupported. It looks like two ramps in one, first a large sweeping ramp then a much smaller "dimple" right at the 6 O'clock position. The new setup works perfectly in ensuring reliability, yet is much safer than the older and more common method of creating a huge, sweeping entry throat that would often leave unsupported brass at the bottom. Many new Colt owners unaware of this new setup have incorrectly assumed that their new pistol isn't "throated for hollowpoints", and have sent their guns off to a gunsmith for a "reliability package". Trust me, the new setup works much better than the old one. I don't know if Colt has patented it, but if not I think the other 1911 makers should follow Colt's lead."

I'll have to get a picture of the feed ramp in my Series 70 reproduction sometime. For now though, enjoy ...
