Agreed. I guess you could shoot it in NCOWS but that is an even smaller market than SASS. Just not worth tooling up for.
Yup. I think you nailed it: too few customers for the cost of making them.

Lots of folks don't understand marketing. They conflate marketing - looking for manufacturers/industries to supply products/services to an eager, existing market of consumers - with advertising - informing the public a product or service exists - or worse yet, with confidence gaming - flat out fraud and manipulation. Markets are people looking for things that aren't being made or are made but are too costly and don't need to be. I think if you look at the classic, transitional Colt's design market, it's pretty slim but it does exist. I think if you look at the long-running, well-respected and known Colts market, it's fairly good sized and underserved. The Police Positive Special is a good revolver and they sell for big $$$ used, regardless of condition. Just for example...

The Lightning and Thunder had notoriously weak actions that constantly broke parts,I had several and all were or did break from 55 year ago and on. I had one of these, I think it was , it could have been an 1878 but was .45 Colt inscribed like this one. It didn't break but I shot it very little and yes it had a 20 pound DA action ! I sold it for a goodly amount in middle 80s after 5 years of ownership . I wonder if the 1902 Action was beefed up so as not to break like the earlier Colt Das did ? That is a stunningly beautiful Colt gun OP has shared !

Yes.

The trigger pull and the advent of revolvers with swing-out cylinders with simultaneous extraction led to a short product life span.

Also true of the 1878.
