I am looking into removing the gas block on a Colt LE6920 and am wondering if anyone has attempted to do this before. The pins appear to be soldered in place. Does anyone know which direction they push out?
What is the reasoning for removing? If it is just for handguards I would suggest shaving the FSB down instead of removing. That way you still have a pinned block and it's cheaper. Now if you want an adjustable gas block for suppressor use etc it would need removed
But they should be taper pins which means they only drive out from one direction. You should be able to tell the large end from the small end and put the punch on the small end to drive them out. You need to support the FSB and whack the punch pretty hard.
In any case heating it to about 500 F should help, in case some yahoo though Loc-Tite was a good idea here.
