Hey, I just purchased one off of GA and was wondering what everyone had to say about it, or if anyone has had anything done to theirs.

Nope, no one modifies those. I don't even know of any place that sells aftermarket stuff for them.

All kidding aside, your question is funny "has anyone done anything to theirs" because the 1911 is probably the most modified gun on the planet. EVERYONE has done something to theirs :)

You will find entire websites and books dedicated to just that.

The variables are endless, but it is good to go just the way it was built. Congrats on a fine gun.

Thanks, I know the possibilites are endless, but I was giving people a chance to show of their mods and to see peoples imaginations. I know it shoots great (have shot friends before) but am interested in any personal preferences, or if anyone has ever had an issue.

Mods

I added a Wilson drop in beaver-tail and an STI hammer to my 70. and that's about it. It shoots great! The one thing I recommend, assuming it is a true 70 series with the collet, is to disassemble by pushing the slide back about a 1/4" before turning the bushing or you will over stress the fingers causing them to eventually brake. The other option is replacing the barrel and collet with a normal setup.

I like to show it off:)

Why would you shoot friends? :what:

I've modified a few 1911s in the past, but really, Jeff Cooper was right. About all a 1911 needs is a trigger you can manage, sights you can see, and enough ammo to accomplish the job at hand.

My preferences on a carry 1911 include:
100% reliability
.45 ACP
One to two inch group at 30 feet, offhand.
Single stack
Yost rear sight, Kings front, with gold bead.
Ed Brown grip safety
Extended, thin thumb safety
Flat mainspring housing.
Fully adjustable trigger, such as a McCormick or Dlask
Durable grips and finish.

Here are a few of mine. Obviously, only 3 or 4 are carry guns.

Mnw42, nice Gold Cup! It's great to see someone else modifying a 'Cup. Here's a short piece on mine.

Friends don't let friends shoot friends. :neener:

Xavier: Wow, what a beautiful pile of 1911's.

Is that 17 1911's? I thought I was rich with 2, something to tell the wife about, to get sympathy followed by another 1911.

It's embarrassing to admit, but after I took that pic, I realized I had left out a couple or three. I just did not have the initiative to pile them up again.

I've never actually counted them, not certain I want to, but yeah, I kind of like the 1911. I just tell my wife the finish keeps wearing off my gun, so I have to refinsh the same one every six months or so. Kind of like repainting the house don't cha know? ;)
