I saw Colt Anaconda in 45LC with 4 inch barrel in a local shop. 99% condition.

Is that a good gun/caliber combo?

The guy wants $789.95, I can try to shave some of it off...

MAY BE (NOT HAVE TO BE)

May be superb; some examples do not satisfy completely.
I have customer feedback on these guns; they like 'em.

Your results may vary.

There's a 4" in 45 colt here in a shop that's real clean and tight for $599.99 that i've been eyeballing for about 6 months,i keep trying to justify spending that much for a revolver.

I dug up some receipts. 3 years ago I paid $400 each on 2 Anacondas on two seperate occasions. One was a 4" and one a 6". They were nice for $400, but no way worth $795 now. I see them around here now for around $600. I think he's askin way to much. Get a S&W 629. Look at the 629's on Gunbroker right now. There was a nice 629 6" at my favorite gun emporium last week for $450. I traded both Anacondas for Smiths last year.

I would recommend the S&W 629 over the Anaconda. The pricing on the S&W is much more rational. I don't understand why Anacondas cost so much.

I love my Smiths but I have a 44mag Anaconda 4" that I love also. They have been discontinued and demand is rising along with the price. In a couple of years you probably will see them selling at Python prices.

They along with pythons are back on the colt webpage and in production again.

The .45LC 'Condas are less common than the .44 Magnum ones.

I wasn't too happy with my .44 Anaconda. It went out of time early and developed some forcing cone erosion. In addition, it wasn't all that accurate. For that kind of money, I'd get a cherry N-frame, a first-class carry rig, and a case of ammo.

Sorry, I guess I was unclear. I was referring to the 45LC as being discontinued. I just wanted to mention that I had one in 44.

I've only seen 2 examples of the Colt Anaconda. One was really waiting to be melted down & made into something useful. THe other was SWEET. So, in short, it would really depend then, which one you're looking at! :scrutiny:
