I was picking up some rings and a new base for my 10/22 in the local gun store when I noticed they had a Colt Anaconda .44 in the display case. I asked to hold it. It is an 8 inch barreled version and to my untrained eye looked to be in good condition. I noticed very little wear and no signs of abuse. However, when I saw the price tag for $700, I was skeptical. Aren't most Anacondas in good condition going for over $900 these days? I don't have the money for it even if it is still there, but seeing this price on this pistol, would it send off alarm flags to you or rush you to the nearest ATM?

Ive picked up 2 of them recently with work done by magnaport one looks unfired other looks slightly used one 700 the unfired looking one i paid 750 for

I saw an Anaconda, 8" at the last show myself. Guy had $400 on it. I thought that was a fair price and I should have bought it, alas I bought that Officer's Model instead. Well, actually I should have bought both, ahem, anyway... I think $700 is a tad high for a used Anaconda. Like has been said before:
They're not Pythons, so there's no reason they should command ludicrous prices.

$700 would be good price for my area but I have trouble paying so much for a Colt revolver that is not a Python. Does anyone remember what they sold for when first released? Even adjusted for inflation I can't recall them being so pricey. I kind of wanted a 45LC version at one time.

Gun is unique as Colt did not make a revolver bigger than 357mag from like the 1940's until the Anaconda was released. I wonder if they are running out of snake names. what will be the next snake name for a revolver, the mamba or the krait?

Colt would have to make a new revolver to need a new snake name since there only making the SAA this year i dont forsee this anytime soon

In 1993, I bought a brand new 6" Anaconda for $472, out-the-door. I still have it, don't shoot it much, but love the gun. I've been thinking of getting an identical gun for the wife, but we are leaning more toward a new 629 for her.

Okay, I have to ask, what is the difference between the Anaconda and the Python and what makes the Python so much better? I only ask because what interest I have in the Anaconda was spawned by an encounter I had with a friend's Python. It was so smooth and sweet I decided it would be worth it to have one, but I am more of a fan of the .44 than the .357. I was under the apparently mistaken impression that the Anaconda was pretty much a Python on steroids.

The Anaconda is an entirely different lockwork system. The old Colt system used a V-style mainspring, which when properly adjusted was a pure joy to shoot. The Anaconda has a coil spring -- not nearly as silky an action as a Python -- but a lot cheaper to make.

The Anaconda is a scaled-up Mk V (King Cobra) action. Search "colt" in the subject field and "dfarriswheel" in the author field in this forum and you'll get a ton of info on the Mk III and Mk V actions. Good guns...different than Pythons, though.

I paid $399 for my new Anaconda in February, 1994, when I bought it off of Bachman's table at a gunshow in Houston. I think they're nice guns, but then again, they could be junk...what do I know? All Mercedes and BMW's that were ever built are junk. So is the Empire State Building. And the USS Missouri. And, and....
