Colt and BCM uppers

Yes, BCM makes some good stuff, albeit more expensive.

Again, for those who cannot read or refuse to actually read: I do NOT own an RRA product. It's a great option, as are the PSA options, and MANY more.

This thread and topic do concern me as I'd simply like to see the basic choices discussed. Why?

There is a flood right now of marketing people in the Forums all over the 'net: they are here to simply sell 3-4 companies. There's so much more out there for AR options. And, what is really surprising? No qualifications added to the opinions: how and why is your opinion qualified? No offerings of actual weapons intelligence beyond-those suck, THIS is what YOU are GOING to buy. It's boring.

OP-take a look at the RRA Elite Operator 2 upper, mid-length gas unit. Good stuff, and more options to choose from for YOUR rifle. Good times.

@powder: you seem to be claiming that others here are just marketing, while you registered a week ago and are heavily pushing RRA in a thread where the OP specifically asked about two other brands and not RRA. If I were going to accuse someone here of covert marketing, it would be you.

And while everyone here gets to spout an opinion, you are pushing RRA as you state that you've never owned an RRA. I have owned an RRA, along with something like nine other brands (at various times), so my opinion is not based on speculation or third-hand "I heard it on the interwebz!", it is based in part on personal experience, along with what I can read and hear from others.

@Z-Michigan: RRA uppers lowers, PSA uppers/lowers, plus MANY others falling outside of the marketing alphabet soup of DDLWRCBMCYHM.

Just suggestions for the OP to take a look around-it's not a personal sleight on your opinion to get defensive about.

My registration? I registered exactly 25 years ago when I started my Mil career, shooting the truly "Mil-Spec" Colts. Yeah, the marketing focal point the size of a dime is limiting. OP chose a BMC, cool.

PSA and RRA are decent, but not great.

Watching friends shoot PSA, RRA, Colt and BCM rifles side by side, all shooting the same federal M193 with PMags and GI magazines, the PSA and RRA rifles had an occasional failure, the Colts and BCMs never did, EVER, for any reason.

Little differences in materials, production and assembly are the difference. Colt, LMT, DD, BCM and such have higher quality control which allows them to do bragable things like avoid malfunctions in conditions that would cause inferior brands to fail.

RRA, DPMS, and Bushmaster are hobby guns. If you are like the average shooter and only put a few hundred rounds through the gun in a years time, and don't ever expect to put your life in the hands of your equipment, then it is a fine choice. I have used select fire Colts at work for over 2 years, and am a company armorer in an airborne infantry company, (as well as an Infantryman myself), and even though our guns are abused and probably well past their suggested service life, they still run like champs. I have continually serviced 123 M4 carbines, and 12 colt M16A4s, and have never witnessed problems that could be pinned on manufacturer error.

My personal AR is a BCM middie, and i have put 6000 rounds of federal, lake city, and wolf steel cased ammo through it in about a months span, usually shooting 500-1000 rounds in a session among various shooters, almost always in rapid fire or controlled strings of fire, and have never had a jam that was not ammo related. Oh yeah, i dont clean it either. I lube it, wipe down the bolt when it gets too grimy, and keep shooting it, no problems. In several range sessions while shooting with my friends who own RRA and DPMS rifles, i have witnessed failures to fire, extract, eject, the whole list, all while shooting high quality ammo.

To the OP: Both choices are excellent ones, but if it were my money, i would go with the BCM simply because of availability and options. A hobby gun is a hobby gun, but if you want a hard use gun that will shoot every time you pull the trigger, stick with the good brands. Better to spend a bit more and not have to replace it down the line, then cheap out up front and be disappointed later.

It's reports like KyPlinkers post that I've read many times regarding the BCM rifles. Thankyou all for your info. I think I'm going to go with a BCM middy.

Smart decision. BCM is a great choice as has been pointed out here many times. I'm pleased with mine, a LW 16" midlength upper. Just comparing uppers, the BCM, with BCG and charging handle, costs $100 or so more than cheaper ones but you'll never be sorry down the road. How many times do you hear someone say they made a mistake buying BCM?

Just ordered a BCM 16" middy upper today - did a massive amount of research and you just cannot go wrong with BCM.

Check out surplusammo - they still have uppers with free shipping for less than all the other sites.

BCM would be my first pick.

I know a couple cops who use RRA's for there patrol rifles and a couple of guys who use them for 3gun. I would personally not trust my life to a RRA based on the exposure I have had to them.

I have tons of BCM parts on all of my rifle, they make great stuff! I would consider the BCM bolt carrier assembly to be the #1 key factor to keeping a rifle running reliably.

I just finished a build with a BCM upper and have nothing but praise for it. A word of advice, if you get one with a front sight post and plan on removing it, ask them to remove it for you. That thing was not budging one bit no matter how hard I hit it. Luckily, I was planning on just shaving it down so I just had to be careful shaving it down on the barrel.

Yeah, RRA does compare: they make great stuff that shoots sub-moa, for great prices, while still made in usa.

No.

I just took delivery of my bcm 16" middy lightweight upper. I'm extremely impressed with it. Got in on a gwacs armory lower. So light it feels like a bb gun but very, very solid all around.

My first ar was a Buschmaster I bought in 2005 It was a POS. I went with 3 or 4 more brands over the next 3 years. One was a used Colt A2 20" that I wish I had keeped. In 2010 I ordered a BCM lower with a A2 stock. Two days later I ordered a A4 20" BCM upper. When they came In I just snapped them together. And now 2+ years & 3000 rds later with not one malfunction. BCM makes one hell of a fine AR, And that is a fact.

Colt and BCM are both top of the line. You can't go wrong with either one. Add Daniel Defense and Noveske in that group as well.
