Colt Army Special "Y" serial #?

Have Colt Army Special in.38 spl,5"bbl in 98+%original cond.Serial 482972Y .What might the letter Y stamped under the ser#indicate? What might be the value of this gun?

I don't believe the "Y" is part of the sn . It's more likely an inspector mark .

Here's a factory nickel 38 made in 1926 .

On Colt's, numbers or letters stamped above, under, or "around" the serial number are inspectors and assemblers stamps.

Colt started using letters with the serial number on the aluminum Agent and Cobra in 1950 and on all other Colt's in 1969.
When the serial includes a letter it's stamped right in line with the numbers and in the same font and depth of stamp.
