Colt Combat Commander

I got a new Colt Combat Commander last August.
It has about 500 rds, through it without a bobble.

1991 series, has raised 3 dot sights, enlarged ejection
port long aluminum trigger, & I got a magnet - Flat
and yes it's plastic MSH w//vertical serrations.

I have a S&W 1911 it came with an arched checkered
MSH I didn't like. It ow has a Les baer matte stainless
steel Flat w/vertical serrations MSH.

guess I'll get a blued one of those for the Commander.

Love the way the Commander shoots. ss

Combat Commander originally was coined to differentiate the
Steel Frame from the original alum. alloy framed Commander.

Even if Colt no longer brands the steel framed 1991 Series
Commanders wtih the Combat prefix, using the term is less
confusing since not everyone knows that the 1991 series
the llightweight alloy frame is not produced. It's avail in the
XSE Series

So, if you want to Bobtail a 1991, you'd need a steel MSH?

I love mine, but I haven't warmed up to it in the SS II holster. The muzzle digs into my hip.

"Never" cracks me up.

Colt does use a plastic MSH but has never used a plastic trigger. They also use MIM but their MIM is very good.

I wonder if he didn't meant hammer instead of trigger?

Here's my - as delivered - MarkIV 9x23 with its craptacular plastic trigger and main spring housing.
Ironically, they were shipped with baby-beaver tails, nice semi-night three dot sights and nice hammers... Odd to follow that with plastic nonesense.

I dig the OP's outfit and his reasoning for the purchase.

Todd.

Nice choice, OP, I picked one up just like that when Palmetto State Armory had their big sale in December. I already had one Commander but couldn't say no to a brand new one for only $599!

I have one of the same era, but in .45. The trigger and MSH were swapped out right away.

The quasi beaver tail was another cheap out on Colts part, as it seemed they didnt want to fit a real one to the guns (not that I really like any of them anyway).

I couldnt stand that one, as it pinched the crap out of my hand while shooting. I had it filed to a more traditional profile, soon after getting the gun. This is what it looks like now....

Very nice ... thanks for the pics!

I had one in the latter half of the '70s (brushed nickle) that I carried for a couple of years. I found it to be accurate & reliable and really liked it ... except for the weight under my suit/sport coat. Even in a leather pancake holster it was not as comfortable as I would have liked.
That's why they make the LW Commander, aluminum framed.

An aluminum alloy frame would have been nice. At the time I looked around for a Star PD (featured an AL alloy frame), but could not find one.

I currently have 2 Star PDs but I would sure like to get another Colt Combat Commander ... but not for anything more than short-term carry. ;)

Oh, but they have. All plastic triggers in the 01991s.

I haven't looked closely at a new Colt lately, so they may have changed that.

The Old roll Mark (ORM) 1991's used both a (really cheap looking) plastic trigger and a nylon/plastic mainspring housing. As evidence here with my dead stock M1991A1 Compact (Officers ACP).... I bought this gun usd but knew the orginal owner and this gun since new 1994ish and I know it's never been modified....

The newer M1991's have a very nice Aluminum trigger and still use a nylon/plastic main spring housing (as all new COLTs do). Evidence my New Roll Mark (NRM) M1991 Commander. I have personally owned this gun since new. Bought it in 2007ish.

The mainspring housing while still nylon/plastic of some sort is actually a nice peice. They are light weight, self lubricating, the outer surface is gripy and smooth inside where the main spring and hammer strut cup reside..... While I like steel and Alumnium - I have never felt the need to replace one of these mainspring housings on any of my COLTs that came with it and I've never had or hear of one failing. In addition ot those 2 above my newer XSE Combat Elite and my GUNSITE Pistol both use one.

The plastic trigger on my old trusty COMPACT Model is just horrible quality. It functions fine and dosen't effect the trigger pull - which is actually pretty good for a service/SD pistol - but man is it ugly and warped looking.... Glad COLT went with these new Alum triggers... just wish they had them in a short version.

There are plenty of good short steel triggers out there, as well as steel MSH's.

I always preferred the arched MSH with a lanyard loop. Something else that seems to be a dying thing for 1911's.
