Hello guys,

I'm in a bit of a stall with my Combat elite project.

This is a 2019 Combat elite, so I ordered an EGW beavertail safety for 80 series (other parts or on their way before bringing the gun to my gunsmith) but I'm noticing this:

Is this grip safety going to fit properly?

Thank everyone that is willing to help with some knowledge.

I don’t see how that could work unless your guy is a good welder and willing to put a lot of effort into the fitting.

That is the reason I have my gunsmith order the parts.

I am ignorant in the proper description of Beavertails and a few other parts as well.

I changed out the one you have on the left with a non-beaver tail grip safety on my Norinco b/c the factory grip safety let the edges of the frame bite into my hand. It works fine so I suspect you'll probably be OK as far as it working, but it might not look as nicely fitted where it narrows compared to the one that's already installed. what are you trying to achieve or fix with the replacement grip safety?

I just wanted to buy a better quality part which doesn’t lose color like the crappy one Colt mounts while achieving a better fit

Norinco on top with no fitting. Colt 1911 that was fitted by Smith & Alexander using their parts down the road from me and Les Baer TRS. You can see the fitted ones look great compared to me just slapping in the grip safety on the top one.

Seems to me that the wc bullet proof would fit better with less work, am I right?

It will be very similar to the EGW, except Wilson uses their own radius that is different from other manufactures standard offerings.

What is your goal? To tighten the GS lines and remove rattle? or just because the finish is worn on the Colt?

Both!

There are jigs sold for whatever radus you bought.. i.e. if you bought a .220 radius grip safety you need a .220 radius jig.
least that's the good news. Your gunsmith should have them! You can do it yourself with the jigs if your skills are up to it. (File and sanding work)

your looking at a refinish thats the bad news,

Alright. What kind of grip safety should I get to do the least amount of filing possible? I don't want a drop in part necessarily, just a machined one of good quality

0.250 radius will require the least amount of filing. EGW, Ed Brown, Harrison all make quality ones that are used by the pros.
