Hi All
So I have gotten it into my head that I want (no need) a Colt (LW) Commander and or a Colt Combat Commander. So I jump on gunbroker and start looking around. Seems that they are over 1K for decent non serese 80 one. Is that just the internet or are they realy getting that much for them??

Any how the hunt goes on.

If you remain patient and vigilant, nice ones show up every couple of weeks for $600-$900.

Or you can get a rough one, spend a few hundred on it and make it "nice".

OR just bite the bullet, lay down the cash and get a nice one for all the money.

They sure aren't gonna get any less expensive any time soon.

"To the vigilant goes the prize.";)

Not to mention...

The best iteration IMO of the Commander (Original was a LW) is the S&W PD/SC Scandium frame gun. Some of the accoutrements are not to my preference, but theres' an awful lot to like in the package; they can be found under a grand presently on GB: Bought one myself NIB for $750 this past year.

Cheers, TF

The good buys are around but as with all good buys, they are scarce and last about 5 seconds. I've been in retail for about 30 years and learned from making my fair share of stupid, "the best price is not best value" errors.

You may spend a bit more from a known source that has a reputation versus it is cheaper over there from someone.

Be ready to jump if that one "great deal" comes by but one thing for sure is there is always going to be another "great deal" later.

Also keep in mind the "time value money concept." How much time do you want to spend to save that amount of money. I cannot tell you how many times when I was working gun shows watching the same faces come tell me about the glock they went to 15 gun shows for to save $20. I know the thrill of the hunt but just keep that in mind.

Best in your quest.

Excellent point, PT.

I just stepped up and paid all the money for a 1998 CCO because they are fairly rare and sell quickly when they're available. It took me less than a week to figure that out.

No regrets whatsoever and I ain't looking back. I'm looking at the front sight.:)

Thanks guys
So if I can get a decent looking series 70 commander for around 900 that would be about normal pricing for now a days?

Does it have to be a '70's vintage Commander? After looking on gunbroker, it seems like you could find any number of newer Colt Commanders (Series 80 or XSE), for around $800 to $900. It just seems like you will be paying a premium price for a nice minty '70's Commander.
