Hello,
I recently added a 1911, to my collection of Colts. I don't however know much about it. I believe though, that there is plenty of knowledge on THR. Please Help.... Here is the Info Colt Series 80 Combat Commander. Serial # FC01XXX. Is this a Good Colt..or a Bad Colt? So far I have Colt Wheelguns, but no Semi Autos

Thanks,
Matt

I'm interested in info as well. I've never seen one that wasn't a satin nickel looking finish, but I think i've only seen the series 70.

As with most firearms the difference between a good colt and a bad one will be shown at the range. If i'm not mistaken the sights look like millets and the trigger might be aftermarket.

The Pistol has a Nickel finish. It must have, b/c if I read correctly a Combat Commander is all steel correct? What did I do when I jumped into the 1911 pool? I love my Python, and I love my Cobra, I hope I will love this one too. Does the FC at the beginning of the serial # tell what this is? Of the pictures I have seen on the net, nothing matches completely.

You should call colt customer service (there number is on the website) they can tell you what the original finish was when the gun shipped and when it was made. I doubt you will have any serious trouble with it, the one thing that I find with used 1911's is that people seem to sell them with crappy magazines. I'm not telling you to go out a buy a bunch of new mags, but if you do have feeding issues they are typically magazine related. I have a 1983 manufacture Colt lightweight commander and it's a fun reliable weapon. And yes the combat commander is all steel and I believe they sold two tone as factory stock models. Like I said, call Colt on Monday (probably closed on the weekend) and they can tell you whats what with the serial number.

It is carbon steel with a nickel finish. I've personally never seen one in two-tone like that, or one with a three-hole trigger with your guns vintage but who knows, Colt is always doing weird stuff that isn't cataloged. 1997 onwards it was also made with stainless steel (which is the one I have). Your sights looks like they aren't factory, maybe Millet? Great gun, works good. My front sight became loose and I cut a dovetail and pinned a Trijicon Wilson unit in, not gonna shoot loose again. That was the only serious issue I had with it other than a bad factory magazine.
