I was wondering how to install a firing pin in a colt D frame revolver? The revolver I have doesn't have a pin through the hammer holding the firing pin in place like on a S&W for example. Heres a pic of what I'm talking about, you can see there no pin going through the hammer holding the firing pin. On a S&W I have the gunsmith just pushed the pin out of the hammer, put the new firing pin in and pushed the pin back in. So how are the firing pins on these colts changed out? Thanks for any help.

There IS a pin through the hammer, it's just polished flush.

The pin is replaced by "finding" the pin and driving it out.
Both sides of the hole in the hammer are very lightly beveled or countersunk.
The new firing pin is installed and a new retaining pin is installed by riveting both sides down into the slight bevels.
After riveting, the hammer sides are again polished flat until the retaining pin is perfectly flush with the hammer.

Note that the firing pin MUST be free to pivot up and down easily.

I was wondering the same thing.
Looks awful good in the picture.

BTW: Too bad about the screw damage from ill-fitting screwdrivers.

Here is one of the places I do use cold blue, quite often it will leave the pin with a differrent shading, once seen easy to remove!.

Well I don't want to replace the cobra's firing pin thats the one pictured its fine. I am looking at a dick special that needs a firing pin as the one in it is broke and it has the same exact hammer as my cobra. Do you guys know if the firing pins at e-gunparts are interchangeable with all D-frame colts?
