The problem occurs when the slide is locked open and I install a full magazine, the round does not come up high enough for the slide to chamber a round once I release the slide.

However, if I install a full magazine with the slide locked back and then pull back on the slide and release it, it will chamber a round just fine.

The other way I can get it to chamber a round when the slide is locked back is by positioning the top round of a full magazine about 1/4 inch forward from the back of the magazine. This way when the magazine is inserted you can actually see it come up high enough so that the slide can now catch the top round to chamber it as the slide goes forward.

I sent this back to Colt a couple months ago and they had it for over a month and a half. According to them they went all though and said it worked fine with their magazines.

Well all my magazines are Colt mags so I asked them for the part number of the one they used (Colt # SP577461) and I ordered two of them. They ended being the up the same as what I already had and gave me the same problem.

I compared it to my full size 1911 and I think the problem is the slide does not lock back far enough. I have tried this with both 6 and 7 round magazines. I have also tried putting only 1 round in each of the magazines, same result

I was wondering if you have heard of this or might have any ideas.

The center rail in the slide is holding the round down. The slide has to move to the rear far enough to uncover the cartridge and let it come up to the feeding position in the magazine. It feeds okay when you slingshot it because you pull the slide rearward far enough to uncover the round and let it rise. When the slide is locked by the slidestop, it's too far forward...and the rail holds the round.

Probably a tolerance stack or out of spec problem within the frame at the rear of the magwell or with the slide at the slidestop's engagement notch location.

too far forward...

"When the slide is locked by the slidestop, it's too far forward...and the rail holds the round."

Yes, that is exactly why I sent it back to Colt for repair. My thought was as you said, the slidestop's engagement notch was cut too far back on the slide. Is there anything that can be done to fix it? Everything else works perfectly on it. It is just an annoyance to me because I know how it should work and I hate having to adjust for it especially for what these guns cost.

The other thing is I don't want to have to send it back to them again, wait 1 to 2 months for them to send it back to me and still have the same problem and tell me it is the magazine again.

I have the same issues with my Colt commander. I just put 1 less round in the magazine and it works fine.
