I have had a GI model full size for a few months now. It feeds hardball every time without a hitch. I recently took my chl class and am now waiting for my permit. I debated getting a new pistol strictly for carry, such as a colt commander, but I would really like to carry my GI as I can shoot it very well, and it's already paid for!
The problem comes when loading JHP. If I use the slide stop release it will load the hollow points fine. If I try to slingshot the slide the bullet nose hangs on the ramp, and looks almost like it was jammed straight into the ramp instead of sliding up. I have to pull the slide back and release it several times before it finally chambers the round.
If I only have three rounds in the mag, then I can slingshot load it without a problem, it goes right in. But it won't do this with a full magazine. So is the problem most likely a weak magazine spring?
