Tell me what you think about the Colt 10mm vs other 10mms. I'm think about getting a 10mm.

Thanks,

James

The Delta Elite does not have a fully supported barrel and can't handle as hot a load as other 10mm's. If you want a 1911 style 10mm there is RIA, Kimber, and Dan Wesson. There may be others. Other options include Sig Sauer, EAA, and Glock.

Can't say anything about the Colt Delta Elite, but I have an EAA Witness Match Elite (10mm) and that thing is awesome. Incredibly accurate and reliable. It used to launch brass into orbit until I had the ejector shortened, now it only slings them into the next county. Being a reloader it's frustrating, but I still love that handgun.

That's the only downside to a 10mm, well other than unsupported chambers if you plan on reloading them.

I looked REAL hard at the Delta Elite years ago, but passed for what ever reason. Then a fellow in a gun/pawn shop had in a new SS IAI Javelina with the 7" barrel. Well I have had a ton of folks tell me what a boat anchor they are and I have to say I must have gotten one of the good ones. I haven't had a bit of issue with it in nearly 30yrs. It just eats up whatever I feed it and rolls on. I've shot everything from 135 through 200 in it and it just tears out ragged holes in the bull. I love it wouldn't trade it for two others.

I do have to say though the new Sig really has my eye. If it shoots as well as my 226 in 9mm and I had some spare funds squirreled away it would certainly be on my "next" list.

Get a 10mm you will not regret it. I have a kimber tle ii and a smith 1076. The 1911 platform is great but if you can find a 3rd smith in 10mm you are in for a treat. Warning: 3rd gen Smith are highly addictive with no known cure.

I have a Javelina and it happens to be absolute tank. The Colt will be a bit pricey, but if you like it, it should do fine. Others to look at would be a used Smith 3rd gen (1006, 1076, etc) or a Witness. The Sig is attractive, but it puts you right back toward the expensive side.

While I agree the Colt Delta Elite doesn't have a ramped barrel, do the other's you mention have a ramped barrel?

I saw a review that showed colt was made for the hot loads of double tap and buffalo bullet. I looked a glock 20 & 40, but it don't feel right in my hand.

Do you want a pretty pistol at a high price or one that has the aesthetics of a brick at a reasonable price? I went w/ the brick. And I usually hate Glocks. They never felt right in my hands and were uncomfortable to shoot. The G20SF seems to be an exception because it feels perfect and I shoot it reasonably well. Still need to practice w/ it more but I can say that about a lot of firearms I own.

Keep in mind that the 1911 was originally designed to run with a pretty low pressure low velocity cartridge (.45 ACP) - (which the 10mm is not).

You will have a lot more people coming over to your shooting point once they see you shooting a Delta Elite. No one will ask to see a Glock.

The gun was originally designed for .38 ACP. Not that far off from 10mm.

Who wants to be bothered while shooting? 10mm in general usually gets their attention. A nice gun just means they will interrupt you :)

SS Delta Elite, one of the few guns I have 0 regrets for sending down the road.

Colt Delta Elite.

The only pistol where I have personally witnessed a factory case rupture, throwing brass into the shooters eye pro. (buffalo bore) Shooter sold it immediately following this event.

Find another 10mm.

Thought about a Delta Elite, thought about a Glock 20. Found a nice old Smith & Wesson 1006 and never looked back.

I have mixed emotions about my delta. I love the gun, it is superbly accurate and is very pleasant to shoot, however with hot loads the case bulges badly. If I had it to do over I think I would still buy the delta. There are better options in the price range though. Pretty much make a call on whether you want a 1911 or another platform. I do like 10mm in a 1911

I bought a 10mm because I wanted a 10mm. Any platform that chambers the 10, but won't handle full pressure loads, is an unsafe compromise.

Watered down 10s have a name.

For a good value pistol, the Glock 20 is it.

Parts for the Glock are available everywhere and are cheap.

Felt recoil can be reduced with a steel / tungsten guide rod.

If you're just looking for something pretty to look at, then the more expensive steel framed models will do for you.

10mm?

Start with a Glock 20SF or 20 Gen4.

YOU WILL LIKE the 10mm. Pretty soon 10mm guns will multiply, then you will be reloading, then you will have a 10mm carbine......10mm, the gateway caliber.

I had a Colt Delta Elite. It was a well made pistol and there was nothing really wrong with it, but I prefer the Glock 20 in 10mm. I also had a Dan Wesson Pointman 7 in 10mm. Again, nothing wrong with it, but I prefer the Glock. I'm content to keep my 1911s in .45 ACP.

I have also had a S&W 1006, 1026, 1066, & 1076. Of the bunch, the only one I really miss is the 1006.

Are you starving for attention?
