Just saw one at a pawn shop. Stainless, excellent cond., older style with regular grip safety with small upturn in the middle, regular safety, and sights.

$899.

Comes with Colt box, papers, and spare mag.

Good deal?

It is a good deal. The new ones sell for ~ $1K now. If it is still there and you like the 10mm cartridge, buy it and shoot it!

Oh yeah! That's for sure!

I left the pawn shop before they closed (4 PM due to Memorial Day). The lady indicated they might come down in price if cash.

So..... Really I need another gun like a hole in the head but dang... They open at 9 am. If I can get them down to $800... I'll buy it.

I reload 10mm and I have a bunch of brass as well as 180 and 200 grain bullets.

I'll go a 9 am sharp tomorrow!

Looks exactly like this:

I'm glad you saw that deal, cause my finances won't have to withstand the hit.

I'd bought that in a heart beat and if I could talk them down a little that's icing on the cake.

Best of luck to you on your 10mm. quest! Even if they only come down halfway to $850 I would still go for it.

$800 would be a good buy. I'd probably pass at $900 though. It's basically a GI style gun in 10mm, which I never really understood the purpose of. If you're shooting 10mm, you're gonna want better sights that the ones that come on the gun. The ring hammer is dated looking, the grip safety is straight from the '80s, and the thumb safety is too small to ride your thumb on (if you shoot that way).

For the life of me, I never understood while Colt wasted all of those years before they FINALLY updated the Delta Elite with the things that other brands had already been doing for the last 10 years. Colt lost out big time on the 10mm trend. They were already tooled up with a proven 10mm platform before any of the other brands were, but they sat back in complacency while they let other brands catch up to them and then surpass them in terms of their 10mm offerings. Colt should be embarrassed. Especially considering they could have made a lot more money to helped stave off bankruptcy, but that complacency, in my opinion, is what lead them down the road they're on to begin with.

Well I have a Colt made .40 S&W already. Yep plain sights but it was made in .40 S&W. Bought it for $700 a year or so ago. Stainless to.

Unfortunately it turned out to be a collectors item!

But notice the extra barrel. It's a match .40 barrel. I kind of wonder of the 10mm would take it?

Ok. Talked them down. $783 plus tax. Came out to $850 even. Plunked down the cash and it's mine.

More later! Keep in mind folks, when you see these new Delta Elites for $1090.. that does NOT include tax.

Oh and the original box, papers, and both mags came with it. Plus I got to disassemble it. Zero wear... Grease still in it! Just a bit of power residue where I think it was test fired at the factory.

is it so old it doesn't have the relief cut in the frame?

Are you talking about where the slide stop goes in. The little bridge of rail that goes over it? If so, it has the cut so there is no bridge.

If you are talking about the slide and relief where they cartridge ejects then it does not have any relief.

Now gang. the .40 S&W 'NM' barrel that came with my Colt .40 S&W (it has the original barrel in it cause the NM barrel won't fit.)

Well that .40 NM barrel drops right into the 10mm! Snug to. No leeway. Maybe it was made for the 10mm and the original owner didn't know that (and the .40 Colt is not the same as the 10mm!)

Now, the 35 lb spring (it's a double spring) in the 10mm, is that to much for the .40 S&W? Do I need a standard GI spring? I have one as well as regular recoil guide and a shock buff.

Haven't shot it yet but by tomorrow I'll have my ducks in a row.

That's a good deal, and good news about the 40 S&W barrel too!

It very well might have been a conversion barrel for a 10mm, and not an upgraded 40 barrel like the previous owner thought.

As far as recoil springs, I'd start with the factory assembly. It may work just fine. The general consensus is to change to a single spring system though. I can't remember the poundage it works out to be.

The recoil spring for the 10mm will likely be too stiff to shoot the 40 rounds. It's worth a try, but you'll probably have to shoot HOT 40 loads or else buy lighter recoil spring to shoot the normal 40 loads.

In a previous post by another OP I mentioned having a Delta Elite replaced the double spring with a 24 lb Wolff single spring, pulling the slide back was like loading a bear trap. Had heard that if the double recoil spring bike taking the pistol apart to replace it was a nightmare.

I picked one up when they first came out.
After 200 rds the slide stop broke. Scared me so bad I got rid of it for a Ruger 45

My Delta runs great. It had a bit of an issue with the ejector but i replaced it and had a few other things done. Smooth running and accurate gun.

Maybe because until just a couple of years ago, nobody gave a crap about 10mm and their pistols weren't selling?

I bought one of the "Delta E's". It took me a long time to get it to the range (I was in the middle of changing ranges.). I bought it because Ive a lot of Guns, but no colts. I was introduced to the range by a true marksman and collector. He was a wealth of information and a great guy. But to get to point, If and, I hope it does, that your Delta shoots half as well as mine, you will have a great gun! I liked my browning Highpower 40cal, but this one is a little heavier. Points true. The Marksmen was hitting clays at 75 yards. He liked the pistol also. Congrats on a great firearm.

Bought one of the new ones. A place has them for sale for $944 delivered.

I had an older one but got rid of it. Didn't reload the 10mm and factory ammo was weak and expensive

The new one shoots better. I can't remember the recoil system of the older one. The new one has the "double recoil spring" and a shock buffer. The slide stop cut in the frame is cut out from the factory.

The finish is nowhere near as nice as the older Delta. It shoots well though.

Like another poster said. I need the bushing wrench to take it apart and put it together.

Shot the 10mm today with Armscor 10mm ammo. 180 grain. Stuff says MV is 1150 fps. I believe it. Was very light kicking. All 50 rounds fired.

Shot decent slightly high groups at 10 yards. No jams, no malfunctions but it wasn't match ammo that is for sure.

Next time I'll do handloads (when the dies come in) and some serious loads and also the .40 S&W barrel.

Couple years ago? Think again. 10mm has been gaining in popularity for the last 8-10 years at least!
