Born and raised Colt for Semi (Gov't Model of 1911) and Smith & Wesson for Revolvers (K frame my favorite).
Someone very close to me, a Mentor up and bought a Colt Detective Special, I razzed him good.
"It turns the wrong way"
"Cylinder latch is backwards too".
Nice gun! We knew folks with Colt Revolvers, even some Mentors and Elders had them, just we messed with one another and all in good fun.
The Mentor I razzed, was dying, and his DS was going to his Widow, and she would give to their only son.
" I want you to have a Colt DS from me, but I will not live long enough to give it to you, sentimental thing, only you and I would understand, and a few others too".
Preacherman found me a 1928 Colt Detective Special. Internals are great, this one was carried and has wear and Character. Preacherman found some old hard stocks and as much as I would like wood...these stocks, on this gun just have the character to match the sentimentality.
Shoots Great! It is special to me, and from time to time I have carried it, and it has taken some small game. It just shoots that great.
Loaded with standard pressure 158 gr LSWC, put up, but not that hard to get to if need to.
Seventy- eight years old, now ain't that something?
Thanks Bob,I miss you a lot - Got a Detective like you wanted me to , and I kept my promise...durn thing still works backwards, don't care what you say.
