Colt Detective Special -- year of manufacture?

I just picked up a Colt Detective Special at the gunshow. It has the shrouded barrel and the shorter grip, so it should be post 1972.

Serial is P344xx -- can someone tell me the year it was made?

Apparently after 1978 - which is as high as my records go. You can call Colt's Customer Service Department and request that information.

Looks like a 1980 version.
That years "P" series started with P01001, and went to P36849.
