A few months back I picked up a nearly mint Colt Diamondback 2.5" from a local store, where it was being sold on consignment. The story was that the original owner bought it new back in 1970, put it in his bedside table drawer, and it mostly sat there until he decided to sell it. Got it with the original box and even the original sales receipt (shown in the first picture below, but with his name erased). Bought new for $135! Unfortunately the original wood grips weren't with the pistol - it has some large Pachmayr Presentation grips installed.

Finally got around to taking some pictures, and thought I'd share 'em.

Some Colts came with rubber Pachmyers.... doublecheck into it. She's a looker though. You lucky dog...

:) OK, it's offical, I hate you! :neener: Actually, you made a great find and congratulations are in order and givin. Mind telling us ballpark what it cost? On this fourum that is OK ya know!:)

You'll hate me if I told you. :) I about tripped over myself getting my wallet out when I saw the price and what great shape it was in.

Really, some came with the rubber Pachmayr grips? How would I go about finding out, or would this require a letter to Colt with the serial number?

Not that one.
Also, no Diamondbacks came with those grips. Those are aftermarket grips.
Beautiful gun by the way.
You will need to put some vintage wood on that beauty to really make it glow.
The wood service style grips/stocks that came on most short barrel D-backs are gonna set you back some serious coin. Sorry for the bad news.

Seeing as it does not have the wood grips you want you would probally sleep better at night if you sent it to me, I'll even pay the postage.............:)

VERY NICE GUN!!!!!

This really chaps me, how dealers sometimes do good customers! I hope you got that gun for half price, seeing as how it only has half a barrel. Send it to me, and I'll send you a four inch Model 10 so you will have a whole gun. That dealer should be ashamed of himself.

A set of grips in the condition of that gun are gonna cost you about $100.00~$150.00 or maybe more. I painfully finding out what a cherry set of grips for my newly aquired Python are gonna cost me!

BTW, I bought a new one in 4 in in 1976 for $238.00 from a Furrs Grocery Store here in Albuquerque that happened to have a little Sporting Goods store in it! Wish I still had that gun!

After consulting a Colt collector here, Yes, I was mistaken. Rubber Pachmyer grips did come on Diamondbacks but it has to have a barrel of 4" or longer, Plus, the factory ones had the Colt medallion in it. So....OOPS !! sorry for the mislead.

Beautiful Colt! If you send it to me I will put on some nice wood grips with finger grooves and send you some pics!:neener: Congrats!:D

Back in 70's I had a 4 inch and 2.5 inch Diamondback. The 2.5 inch was actually the better shooter. Been trying to buy it back from a buddy for years.

I was hitting Coke cans at 50 yards 5 out of 6 shots with it. This is not to say the 4 inch was a dog. The 2.5 had something extra. I put Pachmyer compacts on the 2.5 and what is on yours is what was on the 4 inch. I should have kept borh and added a 6 inch.

But, I would have had to sell them along with the rest during a divorce and hard times. AH well,,,,,,, a common story.

...no kidding ?

Congratulations....and thanks for the photos. She's pure handsome in every way.

I think those Pachmayrs are sign you should shoot her and not just make her a "Safe Queen"....what do you think ? :)

- Regards

Very nice Diamondback. Nice job of taking the pictures too. As you know, the grips are not factory original. It came with the wood combat stocks. All the 2.5" DB's had the combat stocks on them.

There were a few DBs produced with rubber grips from the factory. These were produced in the 1980's after the 6" was introduced. There were also Pachmayrs available with the colt medalion as after market.

All the 2.5" DB's had the combat stocks on them.

Just as an FYI:That would be incorrect as many of the short barreled D-backs came with service stocks and not the large combat style stocks.

Something does not look factory to me.
I wouldn't be in too big a hurry.

WOW!

Where else but the big-3 gun auctions can you find another one of those!?!?!

Extremely sweet.
